matt - You likely won't be seeing any of my off hand groups making the thread..maybe towards fall when I have practiced a few hundred rounds...and then likely only one of three groups. Once the silhouette shooters break out their gear, anything is possible.
I think this will get tougher with the heavier recoiling calibers?

Hunt much?

I've also never worked up squib loads for "real world hunting".

chuck -- Yes, I've hunted a bit, but only for about forty years...and you?
I look forward continue reading the jabs you've made during these "challenge" threads. There is enough variety in the CHALLENGE threads for almost everybody to participate . Try the challenge and you get to enjoy the rush even if you don't post your group pictures! Try and succeed--- well, that's what it takes to earn the right to be a credible critic of those who have "walked the talk"

There were five of us "commited" types shooting today. It was a bit breezy, but at least the target boards were visible...if it snows as forecast, we may have a few days off! Plow was out today, so Range roads should be Ok for another 4" of snow.

260Rem.. I commend you on your threads , so many of us claim to "walk the walk " when all we can do is "Talk the talk ". In my way of thinking these threads are a friendly challenge and shouldn't end up being a verbal sparring match like many of the others end up as .. I enjoy seeing all the great targets that are shown by those who can , it's great incentive to those of us that can't . Well , not yet anyways ..LOL .

H380 - The challenges are all about having some fun doing one of the things many of us really enjoy. Good shooters have to learn, just like everybody else. Shooting small groups is not easy and it takes a lot of time / money and commitment to make it "look easy". When I started to shoot paper ten years ago, I was happy when I came home with a single, three shot group that went under 1 1/2"s. Hopefully, the challenges provide a "goal" which is absolutely necessary to improvement.

That's the way I see it too , as a challenge , not a contest . I plan on trying a couple of them , who knows I may even get a keeper target .

Yah I should have gone today...I think it was still better than the other day I felt so "committed"

I've started to practice a bit by shooting (at) the 100M gong which is just under 8" diameter and decided there is no point in me wasting time drawing circles on paper until I can hit it at least 3 out of 4 tries. I'm thinking my paper supply will be safe until close to fall. I see a couple of issues that make it more of a "challenge" than many think it to be.
First, with "hunting" legal calibers, recoil can be a factor....at least, for me, my 308's seem to want to held tight enough that the scope doesn't rearrange my eyebrow. (I hope to resolve that issue with a new #3 Krieger barrel chambered to 30BR that will go to the smith next week.)
Second, my "huntiing" style stocks and low scope mounts make it difficult for me to maintain good posture..... Whoa! maybe an excuse ro get a proper silhouette stock Don't worry, I'll come up with some more good excuses.

And when exactly was the last time you shot a big game animal offhand at 100 yds with reduced loads in a 7mm-08?

Real live hunting situation indeed.

Chuck - most of us are trying desparately to ignore your "put-downs". There are lots of shooters that are actually out trying the challenges. The sad fact is that most "put-downs" are based in jealousy, and are used by individuals who themselves fear they can not make the standard. Most of us not only remember what our parents taught us, but we pass on to our children...."if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all".
Said before..there are talkers and there are do'ers. We will be following your newly posted challenge to see your reality. Good luck, and most of all have fun...shooting!

Well I'm in! It will take awhile but this sure is interesting.

For guys in the same boat this challenge is attractive as a way to have some real fun while recovering from health issues.

I'll dust of the lefty 54 flintlock, 444, and 32 Special find one of the old smaller target peep inserts I never drilled out and give this a try.

With some practice I would be some proud to put four on a sheet of copier paper! I was pretty good with my FN as a young soldier many years ago. It will be an education to find out what decades of hard living cost me!

oh yeah ,thancks, its just near ponoka , mom is working tomorrow so im taking the little one to see his grandparents and stay the weekend, try get some shooting in . as well as the off hand thing at 100 . i was gonna try and throw some lead 1040 yards in prep for a BC shoot in may. with a different rifle

its gonna be fun with all the snow, hopefully the father in law will plow me a 1km strip. if not im gonna have to hoof it and use my mildot scope to range 1000 yards with a 1 yard by 1 yard target.with an 11" bullseye. usually i just park my truck walk out with the rangefinder and a marker jug,and boom have the range i need.

and besides i need the exercise, just gonna suck to drag a target stand all the way....

Default Today's....2nd try

Here is mine from today 260 Rem, just walked in from my range. I did a bit better than the last time, but that first target keeps stumping me. Same gun, same ammo, same procedure as the first. Now, I'm gonna let my ears warm up a bit and give the heavy barrel a shot.

And....the circles are 8" BTW.

Default i failed

just got back in from trying the offhand shoot at 100 yards.

fail.

i tried to hit 4" circles , but their sort of too small. my rifle is on its lowest setting and shoots pretty high at 100 so have to aim low. first group of 4 arent that bad considering ,but the second group just blurred into the first so i said thats that. the third group was aimed much lower and 2 of them hit the 4" circle. the main problem is my front post on that lever gun is actually a gold colour, so it blends in perfectly with the plywood i was shooting against making it reall hard to spot it ,especially with all the snow/sunshine.

ill keep my 2nd target with 4" circle s for when i get my scoped m14 back, but ill make up a 8" set of targets, and try shooting against a different backboard. with that lever gun.

im still in the game. this is fun .

Good shooting gitr, moved up your game from bronze to silver...I would say you were robbed on that first target! The overall picture is 11 of your 12 shots landed in the boiler room...that's impressive. Great afternoon here in the Edm area so there will be shooters trying for the gold.... My practice regime is kicking in --- shooting two foulers before I sit down at the bench--today I went 2/2 on the 100M gong which is just under 8" diameter. Hold on, yesterday I missed them both. Off-hand accuracy is not easy! Congrats gitr.

David, I passed thru St. Albert on my way home the other day, sorry that I didn't stop by, but I drove thru that storm. Took 15 hours to drive what is normally 8 hours. Anyhow, LC tells me the Axis is now in your hands. Shoot it, those loads you got with it should put you in the game. Good luck.

Suggestion at the Range today that all successfull CHALLENGE rifles include credit to the gunsmith that chambered the barrel (for custom jobs of course).
