Default What’s the secret to booking a 936 orientation?

4 calls, 2 during the week, 2 on the weekend. No answer, no call back. What the hell?? If they make an orientation session mandatory, especially with limited dates, answer the damn phone. Is there another number that actually gets answered? A building that is staffed regularly? Any other ideas?

Same experience each year. I always start calling early because it takes forever to actually talk with someone. As mentioned, if you stop by during business hours, more times than not someone is there.

Try calling earlier in the day to catch them before they head out in the field...

Unbelievable. Called every day, all different hours, left messages, nothing. Guess I have to waste a day off going there. Have half a mind to go with a siren or air horn since apparently the staff there cant hear a phone

Anyone know who to contact at fish and wildlife to file a complaint? This shouldn’t happen. Can’t believe people put up with this crap every year. Seems like they are trying to discourage hunting.

I can understand your frustration. It's odd no ones ever returned a call for me in previous years but it's not that big of a deal to pop in and say hi.

The fish & wild life guy that's always there is one of the nicest guys around.

Technically you need to hit up their orientation meeting so if your too much of an ass when you pop in he may make you wait for the sessions that happen.

I called on Monday, had a return call Tuesday morning. I popped in this morning at 830am, had a nice chat with the fella and had my discharge permit by 845am.

Every time Ive had to renew my orientation I just call early, as in Aug 1 around 8:00 am and leave a message. It usually takes a few days for them to call back. If you need the orientation you have to book it, there are only so many seats available. If you just need the discharge permit they will give you one at the office if they are there but they do ask that you call first. You can also just show up to the orientation early and they will issue your permit but you may be required to wait until after the orientation is given if there is a lot of people waiting.

One thing you have to remember is there is a limited number of officers out there and summer is their busy tourist season. Being so close to many large populated areas makes them even busier. They are also responsible for issuing the permits for North Bruderheim and Redwater as well. I believe they are also responsible for training new officers as well ( I see many " rookies" out there each year) These are probably some of the nicest officers out there but with limited man power there is only so much they can do. (this is coming from someone with little remaining respect for law enforcement, but they have earned it)

Personally I wish they would issue a numbered card that was valid for 5 years instead of the paper copy you get now. Perhaps even a card and yearly self registration so they know how many hunters are there annually.
