Default Almost a Convert

This is mainly for the lefty’s, but here is progress on converting a right hand Bansner stock to left hand. Lots of work to be done still. Being LH is a constant pain. :-)

It appears that the OP is using the cut outs from the left side of the stock to fill the factory cut outs on the right side of the stock. Am I correct?

Also wondering if any other filler like fibreglass mesh is being used to strengthen the joint of the Marine-Tex epoxy to the existing stock material.

No to both.

The original stock had moulded in cut outs. So fibreglass runs through them.

With Model 70’s the options have all but dried up. Here is a little more progress.

A better idea with the bolt release back in place. This is the hardest part as there is nothing behind the old bolt notch on that side. It all needs to be built up.

That looks great bud. I hate building up on stocks. I always end up over critiquing and doubling the work actually required.

Any updates on the conversion? Wondering what the time investment was excluding curing time for epoxy?

Looks good bud! What a pile of work, but, those are nice stocks.

Now, paint it nice.

Looks great ! But why didn't you paint it before the pad install ? Fear of damage ?

Here is the scary part. It’s a 338 Win Mag and as you see it it weighs 7lbs 12 ozs.

That is virtually the same weight as my rifle in .338 Federal (7 lbs 11 oz).

I know which one I'd rather shoot....

Why is that?

P. S. Those red/orange/whatever pads really do get a guy like me (perhaps) overly excited!

The pads are ground to fit. It’s just easier.
