Only way I know of is to bend your elbow 90 degrees, then bend your trigger finger 90 degrees and measure from crook of elbow to the crook of your finger.

LOP is the distance from the butt to the trigger, you can estimate if a rifle will fit you by putting the butt of the rifle into the crook of your elbow and see if you can comfortably reach the trigger.

Grip size, grip angle, and amount of clothing makes a big difference too.

I've known some guys who have a 1" and a 1/2" recoil pad ground for a specific rifle to compensate for summer vs. winter use.

One guy used to remove the recoil pad and hunt in cold weather with no pad what so ever.

I remember speaking with D'Arcy Echols about this in his shop. He opined that the only thing this told you was the distance between the crooks of your elbow and trigger finger.

If you routinely shoot from the crook of your elbow, this is a critical measurement. As it happens, for most people, holding a rifle so the butt rests in the crook of the arm is a fairly effecitve way to check LOP but not always. I have said before, shoulder the rifle; if it feels to short, it probably is. If it feels too long, it probably is. If it feels just right, you, like Goldilocks, have found a good fit! Leeper
