Default Concusion and Whiplash

I had a little mishap last Sunday and rang the old hat holder pretty good so after several days of being a little loopier than normal I ventured to the sawbones. DR. Skinny Finger's tells me I'm to lay extremely low for at least 3 months and possibly more depending on what the X-rays show. She said no horse's for the summer and it could be until next year. Now with more than several bouts of disorientaion and memory loss happening several times a day I'm thinking I may have to actually listen to words of advise from a female.
Oh well shat happens and I'm going to have to invest in a good hammock
to spend some quality time in.

wow, heed those words and I wish you a full recovery. I have a brother that was in a bad accident...his concussion/whiplash was pretty severe...and it affects him even now years after the accident. His long term recall is not as good as it once was and oddly enough he has some trouble with reading comprehension when it involves sarcasm or dry humor...he just finds it hard to understand it now....and no he wasn't always like this. The mind is an amazing tool, but wires can get crossed and get a bit freaky on ya...

I have the same situation with an accident march 29. I am still feeling it , feels like I have a hangover some mornings! I don't remember drinking the night before! All kidding aside I also got a constant ear ring in both my ears that may never go away! Do what your Dr tells ya even tho most of us don't have much egg to scramble up there once it's gone it's gone! you don't want to end up all punch drunk licking mirrors!

Listen well and write it down, cause you may forget it. I've had a few horse wrecks and resulting concussions. Save the wise cracks Okie, I've heard them all. I can't remember them but I've heard them.

The up side is follow orders and you'll likely have minimal consequences. It also gives you a ready made if you need one. "Must have been that time I had the wreck with the horse. I completely forgot to meet you. Well say hi to your mom."

Good luck with a complete and speedy recovery.

Hey Bruceba, Good Luck, Listen to your doctor. Whatever you do DON"T SUSTAIN ANOTHER CONCUSSION! I'm speaking from experience. the first one 7 years ago major head injury, coma the works. Then sustained minor concussion 2 years ago it set me right back to where I was 7 years ago.

Take your time to recover, don't push it. If you need to sleep, sleep. Be prepared for behavior and mood swings, dizzy spells, loss of balance, etc.

A good test is to have someone stand behind you ready to catch you, now put your feet together, arms pressed against your side. Now close your eyes and see how long you remain standing. That will tell you how badly your balance centers have been affected.

If you have any question or you want any advice or tips on how to deal with symptoms as they arise just pm me.

Good Luck I wish you all the best I hope you heal quickly.

SycoSean

5 years in my ears still ring and I still feel drunk/hungover.
Nothing they can do.

The one with my mare a couple weeks ago I at least stayed in the saddle for about 12 seconds [ for sure made the 8 count. ]. Nothing like laying on your back watching up at a gal tap dancing all around you. She did manage to boot me once in the foot but I was scrambling way to fast for her to get a good bead on me. Sundays with my gelding was a total black out from after the second buck until I woke up on the ground. I think and I am just guessing but I may have snapped my neck back hard on the second leap because it's about there that my memory is gone.

I am heeding all the warnings, thank you.

Okotokian I believe in doing things the least invasive way. Not only is it not unpleasent but it is down right..... sorry I digress must be wound related.

I hear you.
I was still in the saddle with one of my mares when she dragged herself back up onto her feet. She reared and came over on top of me, but I showed her. I stayed right in the saddle when she got up and rode her around for a few minutes. Then I went to emerg and they taped the broken ribs.

Another time I woke up in the hospital to the sweet sounds on my wife's voice asking "What have done now *******?" I said I can't remember, I think as crazy as it sounds I had a wreck with the horse. She said " I know that *******, but what have you done here to ****off the nurse?"

I make a lousy patient. I guess it's to be expected from someone who is bulletproof and a *******.

What amazes me is how much time you have to think while all this mayhem is going down. With my mare the second buck started the saddle slipping and half way down in the bottom of turn 3 I'm shifting the saddle back to center.
At about the 6 second mark when she's down to her knee's in the front I'm casually thinking that this would be a great low spot to just step off from. Naw lets see what she's got stay put. At about the 10 - 11 second point after she's done two 180's and a half pike double kick heel toe side step she hit down to her knee's again. Again that glimmer of brilliance say's step off but do I listen to glimmer, no way. Some where as she was coming back up hard left and I'm taking the que leaning down into the next lunge she swaps and it's hard right and I'm on my back. I only hurt my pride and had a few bruises on the legs after that one. I get back in the saddle on her almost as quick as the dust settled and she rode just fine all the way back to the truck.

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl to marry him and she said "no", so he lived happily ever after
What did that have to do with concussions?

Yeah, 1:30 PM.

I had to climb up four flights of stairs last night, so I was exhausted.

Okie:

Please oh Please don't bring up that yearly checkup.

I don't care how skinny the fingers are I cringe at that prostrate exam.

I wonder if Lady Gaga gets a prostrate exam?
