Default Rust on the gun cleaning question

Hello,

This is kinda embarrassing. I moved to Vancouver about 8 months ago, and since there is no shooting range with reasonable price, my guns were just sitting in the gun safe.

When I opened my safe this morning, I noticed there are some rust growing on my mossberg 500. Before I left AB, i cleaned and oiled them, but humid BC weather ( i live near the ocean) is biting me.

So here is my question; can anyone suggest me the scrubs and cleaning solutions that I can get even at Canadian tire?

Thanks in advance.

One of the best rust prevention products is Eezox, you should find it at Reliable Gun. Another great use is as a bore protectant, helps with 1st shot dispersion from rest of group.

Default Rusty

All of the above, and there’s more in a recent thread about storing firearms in cases. Sorry, don’t know how to link the thread...

Try paper towel and oil first.

You'd be surprised how much rust will come off.

Always use the least abrasive method first.

You need to check out Goldenrod for your gun safe.
Some method for reducing moisture in the air is required.

Try Boshield T9. It is used by Boeing to protect all the electrcal connections on thier aircraft. Available at most Lee Valley outlets. It is formulated to protect all metal surfaces from corrosion , and is not a dust collector. Pretty good stuff.

Best method I have found is using an American penny older than 1982 because it is 95% copper and 3 in 1 oil. Very simple and effective, apply oil and begin rubbing spots of rust with the penny.
I have tried using 0000 steel wool and find it leaves very minute scratches, not so with the penny method,
Good luck
