Default Brown Creek

Hey I'm just wondering how the conditions would be this time of year on some small creeks, I would love to get out there and toss some flys but I'm curious if it would still be too early?

I was actually did a little scouting trip along that portion of the trunk road yesterday.

Clearwater River and Prairie Creek are wide open and fishable

Elk Creek was fishable close to the mouth, further upstream was still iced/snowed over

Brown Creek where the trunk road crosses is was open water but ice around the edges, would be hard to fish unless you wade. Crystal clear water though.

the rest of the creeks I checked out were iced over/not open to fishing until June 16 (ie Blackstone, North/South ram and tribs).

I would wait a couple of days at least though, on my drive through that portion of the trunk road yesterday it was absolutely blizzarding for about a 20km stretch. Good 3 inches of snow on the road and below zero temps. I already put my summer tires on my jeep and I was a little scared haha. Decided not to turn back and it got better closer to Nordegg, road was wet but snow free.

Brown Creek is a tributary of the Blackstone and is covered under the regulations for the Blackstone and its tributaries. It doesn't open until June 16. Same as the nearby Chungo Creek.

Oh I did not realize that, thanks for letting me know. I guess I'll have to leave my rod hanging for a little bit longer.

Oops - good thing I never fished it then

My hard copy of the 2017 Regs I ordered came in today, I'm gonna leave it in my Jeep from now on and double check every stream before I cast.
