Default John D'Or Prairie

What is the most economical way to get to there, from Lethbridge? I don't mind flying and renting a car from GP or FM. Cost is key.

What's your time worth ?
Driving is almost a lock as the cheapest, but it's a long one.

Definitely driving is cheapest. I'm thinking about 14 hours is enough time. Fuel up in Red Earth on your way up highway 88. unless of course if you plan you to spend extra hours on the "scenic route" through Peace River.

My God, spent an entire summer there once. 4x4 track from Ft. Vermilion, except we had no 4x4, just a half tone with material to build a dead man if we got stuck. Long drive from Lethbridge, but I think the road from High Level is paved as far Ft. Vermilion these days. Lady next door, coincidentally, is from there and she makes the trip regularly. There is an air strip there, but not much of one.

You can drive there quite easily. Flights up that way aren't cheap.

It is about $500 bucks to fly to edmonton from Lethbridge, then another 1,000$ to fly from Edmonton to High Level. These are return prices, then it's another $100-125$ a day to rent a vehicle.
Have a nice time in Jean Do'r Prairie.

Where do you rent a car in High Level ?

I'm wondering because I've been to and through that airport many times. I lived in High Level and go there often now and I have never noticed a car rental anything around the airport or the town.

You used to be able to rent them from the ford dealer.

Gotta wonder WHY anyone would want to go there.

I was just a teen, working for some people who had leased farmland, south of the air strip. Learned to run a cat, clearing and breaking land. Adam's Landing is kind of a neat spot and you can hear the Vermilion Chutes, major rapids in the Peace River, roar from there. Black flies and mosquitoes were about asbad as I've ever seen, didn't dare open your mouth too wide.

Anyone ever been to Fox Lake? Looks like we have another project there. Is the barge across the river the only way in?

And does anyone know if there is an airstrip in John D'or Prairie?

Late to the thread.

Take what you are comfortable with.

You will not come ahead financially.

But if you can pass on information to improve ,your being will be good.

I have found contacts made are wealth.

I've been to Fox Lake a couple times. Drove in to the barge crossing once, and chartered a plane the second time.

If you rent a vehicle, your insurance is unlikely to cover you trying to get to the barge site, as they would probably consider you "off-roading"; the road (trail) conditions are very weather dependent. At least that's the way it used to be. I heard they opened up the winter road to the barge site to all season traffic, if so, that would make the barge a more viable option.

If I was bidding on a contract in Fox Lake I would add 2K for travel for each trip from Lethbridge; Jean d'or Prairie $1200.

Budget and national both have rental stores at the airport.
