Do you guys buying pay more for skinned coyotes or would you rather do it yourself?

Default Skinned Coyotes

So Trapper Gord showed my how to skin Coyotes the correct way. I have a few and in good condition. I haven’t tried to flesh them or board them yet but how hard can that be.

Once I do fleshing and boarding - what's next? Sell it? Tan it?

What's a coyote worth skinned?

What's a coyote worth after boarding?

Thanks for your help

Got you covered now eh Jefferies. I do custom skinning and boarding in the Taber area. Also working on getting my fur buying license right away.

Default Suggesting PROPER STORAGE of whole COYOTES

To the guys that are interested in selling whole coyotes.
Proper storage enhances their value.
Ideally store them by hanging lengthwise by the hind legs in a cold storage area, grainery, shed, shelter, or shaded area out of the direct sunlight.
Don't store them by laying on the ground or floor of a building on top of each other. They get crumpled, froze to the floor, loose guard hairs when pulled away, get flattened and chewed by mice, and difficult to transport when they are shaped every which way.
Crumpled coyotes are often intentionally stored that way to hide bullet damge or other problems. Buyers are aware of this tactic.
The fresher the coyotes - the more appealing to the buyer.
The older they get - more dried out - harder to skin - less appealing.

Do tie them by the back feet, not by the tendons. By the tendons makes them very difficult to open.

Also, don't wait until they thaw out to sell. As AlbertaAl set, sell them while they are fresh.

And hanging in the shade away from mice is critical, in a building is better than outside in the far south with its chinooks.

If I ever have to store one for awhile I also give them a spraying with Raid then place in plastic garbage bag before hanging. Kills any fleas, ticks mites etc.

Just a heads up for anyone in the area......The quality of the fur on coyotes is starting to deteriorate and there will come a point when I will stop buying coyotes for the year. The season is over for trapping at the end of February but I may stop buying before that, it all depends on the quality of the fur. If you have coyotes hanging I would suggest that you drop them off to me. Thanks.

Thanks for the update, I am in your area, haven't hunted coyotes before but i have access to some land so I have been trying my luck with it. If i were fortunate enough to connect with anything I was planning on contacting you as i read your post a while back. Will you be able to give an update again when you decide to stop buying so a guy knows what his options are?

Thanks

Yes, I will update if and when I stop buying whole coyotes. You can still drop by with them if you are in the area and I can have a look and determine if there is value in the fur. My heads up was mainly for anyone that plans on shooting a bunch in February and has to travel a ways to bring them to me. I don't want to disappoint anyone.

If anyone with a license to buy is in the Ellscott/Perryvale area then give a shout. Might have a few animals in the next little bit. Please PM!
