Default First Check

Went on the line for the first check of the season. Had 32 marten boxes out and found 7 marten and 1 fisher in them today The best check for marten I have ever had. Set the line on thursday and a storm front moved through friday night and snow 4-6 inches saturday. All but 2 were caught before the storm. If I can pull fur like that every check I might just make a profit!

Good check on sat. River froze enough that the Tundra could skim across water to my last two sets. Both cubbies were had fur, one marten, and one mink. Found it intresting a mink would run up a tree on a marten set, but not complaining. Try to extend the line next weekend hard water prevaling. Out of 13 sets it's not that productive, but hoping for better as it cools off. Mean while I will be doing some internet trapping....

Default 2nd check

Went for my 2nd check yesterday. Did pretty good with 3 weasels, 2 marten, 1 fisher and first lynx of the season. The young tom crawled in through the back of my cubby and got smacked by the 330 on the way out. This set site produces every year

Weasels 3
Marten 9
Fisher 2
Lynk 1

I did't kill the him, but he's in my shop, and is gonna pay for gas so I can check them Marten sets.
Nice an cold, should be able to extend the river line this weekend.
The short line at home seems dead, no Marten tracks and and empty traps after almost 4 weeks.

Default Check

3rd check produced yet again. 2 marten, 3 weasel, 1 fisher and an otter! Otter was in a 330 in a culvert set, 16 lb male. That is about as big as I have seen them. Think I'll get it tanned.

6-Weasel
11-Marten
3-Fisher
1-Lynx
1-Otter

Well not much luck with the marten this weekend. One trap was sprung, some marten hair on the trap but no marten?? Not sure how he pulled that off. Got 2 coyotes, one squirrel and one weasel.

Last week was a good check. Except that I was out around 7 pm and the headlight on ole trusty Tundra burned out and left me with moonlight.
Makes for intresting trap checks, staring in the dark to see if you got something.
3 Marten, and an extra large weasel. One marten had mange and was almost hairless.
Set some more line on sat, see if any animals are willing to cooperate.
Did any one else notice alot more movement with the cold snap?

I didn't know marten got mange. I got one the other day that looked like it had mange, but the trap landed on the running pole and either suirrels or mice clipped the hair on 2/3 of the back. There was hair laying in clumps all around it. Very disappointing. Lots of mice on the line this year.

Well not bad this weekend. Had another big Marten. Looks real nice, all 4 feet are white. One more coyote, also a big one, 5 squirrel and one weasel. Got 8 more marten sets in a new area so waiting for Saturday, see what we find.

Default Wolves in the Mountains

All you trappers. Declare war on the Wolf population please. A buddy
of mine just got his first one this winter. He got six last winter but there is still
way too many wolves everywhere.

Have two weeks off so I started to do a little snaring and after one week I got two yotes and eight squirrels! Hoping for more coyotes, it seems as if I should boil and dye my snares.....never had to do that before

Well things seem to have slowed on my little line in the last two weeks. One Marten and some squirrel and weasel. Maybe set up in some more new area next week.
