Default Mountain Lakes Brookies?

Hey Folks, What are some of your favourite patterns for brookies in the mountain lakes? I am heading out for a few days "walkabout" in Kananaskis. Gonna try Elbow Lake, Tombstone Lakes, etc. I'm still a beginner with a fly rod. Tried a few times years back when camping with the family, but never had a lot of success. Any tips would be appreciated. Cheers.

The brookies in Elbow Lake are stunted and quite small in size, so I'd recommend using smaller sized flies in the 14-16 range. Those brookies aren't usually picky, but I'd have a selection of small adams, elk hair caddis, and humpies for dries, and your basic nymph selection... gold ribbed hare's ear, pheasant tail nymph, prince nymph, etc.

I also used to take fire starter, open fire mesh burger cooker, margarine, salt, lemon wedges and onions and a little seasoning salt. Take brookies, clean, use seasoning, margarine etc... cook...yum.

Nothing beats a nice, tasty shore lunch of fresh fish.
