Default My Dream season, so far......

So many stories I've read sitting at my computer and finally I have one about taking the biggest Whitetail Deer of my life!!

We drove up nearly 100 miles NW of Athabaska. Not a flake of snow anywhere, we couldn't belive it. After getting organized with supplies were we lucky to have time for an evening hunt.

We set off on the side x side crossing many more kilometers to one of the guys favorite spots. After getting close to it and getting directions I started my walk. The terrain was easy and a short time later I was on the cut line I was going to glass and wait for my buck to come out. Hopefully.

At around 4:30 the guys left. I crested the first hills and when I came over the top there were 2 does running away. Nice, I was thinking this is a good thing...

After walking up and down a few hills it was obvious I wouldnt be sitting anywhere on the long and wide cut line. The grass was over 3 feet in places!!
I simply continued to walk but was getting frustrated because I'm not a great shot "off the shoulder", I need my bipod!! I needed some room down low to set up my bipod and have a decent view if a Deer came out.

That was the boring part of the story, that's about to change...

After sitting and standing mostly watching uphill, i was getting tired. I was stretching my legs and literally relieving myself (sorry, part of the story) when 2 Bucks started fighting what seemed like 20-50 yeards in the bush. I was eyes wide open, scared and so freaking excited all at once. Only thing, little gunner still hadn't finished his business. The Deer were fighting, I even caught a couple glimpses of them, and no sooner did they start fighting, they stopped. Not a sound, Nothing!!

With my heart pounding and little gunner safe I just stood there trying to figure out what happened. NOTE- This would have been a great time to pick up the gun, I didn't!!

All of a sudden at nearly 300 yeards, a Buck runs out of the bush. Does a quick look around and I can see he's a decent Buck. He starts to run away from me before I get my binos on him!! I just stood there and stared at the
***** of biggest Deer I've even seen.

The Deer gods were smiling on me that night...

Like some Doe yelled "Hey baby", he stopped in his tracks and turned broadside I quickly dropped down and found his range at 385 yards, slightly downhill. I looked at my gun that was easily a few yards away. It was fully extended on my bipod, facing uphill!! The wrong way!!

How I was able to crawl the few yeards, get the gun, turn it around, and plant myself while putting him in the crosshairs is a freakin miracle. He must have been concerned about the other Buck he was fighting.

I'm shaking like a leaf by now... He's a great Deer through my scope. A few seconds elapsed and I knew I had to squeze the trigger. For the last 3 minutes maybe he stood perfectly broadside. All of a sudden he turned one step into me and was 1/4 turned...

I Always keep both eyes open and this is why...

Hardly a sound it seemed. Orange and red fire exploded out of the gun. I saw him jump, curl, spin and drop in his tracks. He expired within seconds. Perfect placement and an ethical, quick kill.

So much more but I will finish by saying thanks for reading. A huge thanks to the men who made this possible for me. Good luck to all of you!!

Rough score was only 137 7/8 but that a trophy in my books any day!!!
