Default Opening morning WT buck in 116

Filled my buck tag yesterday morning. Wasn't even going to go out because I had to be back in town for 11:15 to pick up my daughter from school but decided to go at the last minute.

He is not a monster but not bad for where I hunt. Also due to the location of the shot I did not bother getting any field photos of him which is pretty dissapointing.

Here is a cut and paste from an email I sent my brother describing the hunt:

I sat first thing in the morning didn't see anything then when I went back
to that road we usually drive in on I saw 2 bucks jump out of the brush
right next to the road. Looked like a forker and a 3x. I watched them to
see where they went then decided to just keep going and do a loop around the
back end where that abandonded building is.

When I came back out I figured what the hell, I would walk in and see if
could get that 3x3. On the way in I was walking by some brush, I knew the 2
deer I saw earlier ran past it but figured I would check it out anyways. I
didn't see anything so was going to walk past then something told to to stop
and take a better look, sure enough I spotted this guys antlers about 80
yards away looking right at me. I turned and went to my knee. Brought the
gun up, he didn't look bad. Then I didn't know what to do,
all I could see were antlers basically, I tried to do a doe bleat to get him
up but he wouldn't move so I just shot him between the eyes. It Was
just luck that I saw him, I would have walked right past and he wouldn't
have moved.

Its a shame I had to shoot him in the head but he didn't leave me any choice.

Here are a couple pictures, they are kinda gory so viewer beware.

Yep, nice typical, with good symmetry.

Nice whitetail, especially after the winter that we had in this part of the world. Sounds like there are still a few around, which is encouraging.

Thanks guys. Here is a little better picture with the antlers held where they should be lol. Still not a pretty sight though.

Bullet hit almost dead center between the eyes. I love my Weatherby!
