Calling out under performers after you have made the choice to not offer them a contract is just down right disgusting. Where was this call out when it could have done something other than screw him up for his next job? I would imagine that the next free agent will take this into consideration before even thinking about signing in Edmonton. Don't get me wrong, $$$ can solve any issue but if its a toss up, would you come play for that Azz? Just another reason to NOT come to Edmonton and play.
This is just a sign of how the whole organization is being run. If Katz lets this pass then you know who to blame.
This was horrible and someone needs to be fired.

Just got home from the Game with Brendan. Great time and a fairly soild 60 minutes against a desperate opponent. Koskinen looked good tonight. Every stop was solid and controlled. Only guy really off his game was Gagner, maybe found it tough playing against his old team.

Also Coyotes and Chicago lost.. all round good night.

Which gets them what, a seat on the couch for the playoffs? What does it matter how many points he gets? He's about a whopping +4 on the +- stat. Pretty sad for a projected 100+point scorer.

But don't hold the high paid help accountable Oilers management, blame Rieder for the team missing the playoffs.

Maybe if the goaltender the management team signed for too much and too long could stop the odd puck with his glove hand most nights the team maybe would be a playoff contender. But hey Bob, don't blame him, you signed him after all and to blame him would be by extension, blaming your management team and we all know that's not part of the problem, Toby is.

That's right, every year in October 30+ teams in the NHL start the season trying to get two 100+ point scorers. Cup? we don't need no stinking cup, lets strive to miss the playoffs for the upteenth time and get two 100+ scorers, that the true measure of a quality team.

Oiler fans need to worry less about what the flames do or don't do and focus on that dumpster fire of a team that the owner and management give you every year in Edmonton.

Someone in this thread called them a hot mess. A hot mess is about looking good while you are looking bad. There is nothing that looks good about what's been going on up north.

Name me one team in the four major North American professional sports leagues in the last 10+ years that has had as many first overall or high first round draft picks and have done less with that situation, and at the same time have salary cap issues.

I'll make it easy for you, there isn't one. Edmonton is it.

The team is no where near good enough and the management and ownership team stinks. None of that has anything to do with the flames. You need to quit focusing on who the messenger is or where the message comes from and focus on the message.

The rot is deep and systemic in that organization and will continue for the next 2 to 3 years. After that, who knows but they will be in the same boat as the other 31 teams. No better, no worse, if they're lucky.

I agree...I was really surprised at this coming from Nicholson..I always pegged him as a class guy...indicative of how much pressure these guys are under.

Oh Bobby. You are not an NHL guy. Go back to Hockey Canada. Nicholson is the reason this club isn’t in the playoffs. He signed a garbage GM and also had his stamp of approval on terrible trades and a poor goalie signing. After his comments I’m sure free agents will be flocking here to eventually get thrown under the bus.

Drai had an awesome individual season. I’ll take 3 30 point guys over Drai. I always thought If we had that we would have been in the playoffs. That was until we signed a goalie that shouldn’t be a starter to 4.5mil a year. We are now stuck with him next year as our starter. You won’t go anywhere without consistent goal tending. Hang on. It’s gonna get bumpier yet...

I've read several articles about the season ticket holder meetings.
Amazing stuff.

I was surprised to see Nicholson acknowledge that the team made limited use of analytics for the past 4 years while Chiarelli was GM. (Under the bus you go, Chiarelli!!! ) But, seeing how little attention gets paid to the salary cap, I guess it's really not all that surprising.

OBC has gotta go.
