Kept In The Dark: Leaked Memos Show Real Reason Behind Bill 50
Kept In The Dark: Leaked Memos Show Real Reason Behind Bill 50

EDMONTON, AB (May 17, 2011): Freshly leaked correspondence between Alberta and the United States that discusses exporting Alberta’s electricity south of the border strongly suggest the Alberta government has mislead Albertans on the true reason for its planned $16 billion upgrade to the transmission system.
WikiLeaks has posted diplomatic cables exchanged between the Alberta and United States governments that suggest the real reason the current government has proposed a massive overbuild of Alberta’s transmission grid is to accommodate electricity exports. This, despite repeated assurances from the current government that the upgrades were critical to keeping the lights on in Alberta.
“These documents show this government’s sales job on the need for these transmission lines to be a complete fraud,” Wildrose Leader Danielle Smith said. “If they want to have a debate about exporting electricity, let’s have that debate. Instead, they’ve deliberately and repeatedly deceived Albertans by trying to convince them they need to pay for these upgrades for their own good. We need to go back to the drawing board immediately to determine Alberta’s true transmission needs.”
The overbuild was declared critical infrastructure under Bill 50 – the Electric Statutes Amendment Act, which allows such a designation to be applied to infrastructure projects without a needs assessment. Wildrose Finance Critic Rob Anderson had a motion to repeal Bill 50 defeated in the Legislature this spring.
“This government has used scare tactics to try and get Albertans to believe if they don’t pay for these transmission lines – and the massive increases to their power bills that will accompany them – the lights in their homes will go out,” Anderson said. “There’s a reason this government skirted the needs assessment process. Any needs assessment for this overbuild would have revealed it to be an utter sham. Unfortunately, Albertans are stuck with the tab for it.”
The Wildrose Caucus stands for free enterprise, less government, increased personal freedom and democracy.

Surprise, surprise. Just another reason to boot this government out of office.

So, finally some evidence that supports what I have been saying for over a year now.
To me it was obvious. I did some research last year and found that at present our system is running around 85% capacity during peek demand periods.
So I wondered why we would need to increase capacity by a factor of at least 12. When I asked Alberta Power personal I got a verity of contradictory answers.
SO to me it was clear that we weren't being told the truth. I also realized that this power-line makes no sense without a new power generation facility.
Since the only power facility being discussed, is the "proposed" Nuclear plant at Weberville. (Peace River) I realized that this Nuclear plan must have already been approved by our government. And I said so. Sadly no one wanted to believe me.
Maybe now folks will begin to understand just how dangerous Mr Stale-mac is. Yes I know, I spelled it wrong, deliberately.

The leaked information is from the Klein Govenment.
The PC Government has been and still is lying to it's citizens. This govenment is attempting to steal OUR money and OUR LAND to pay for this private venture.
This government has nearly finished legislation to Privatize Wildlife.
Now the gov. is proposing PAID Access to public land under any disposition.
Water is next. The gov want to open up the water market.
We MUST stop this!

Water is next. You can be fined thousands of dollars in Alberta for not having a registered water well [and I bet you thought registering a gun was stupid] They are allready starting a water shortage campain, much like the climate change BS.
They will end up taxing water usage on farms and acreages that have their own well.
The transmision lines the want Albertans to pay for is to allow the Upgraders to sell their power onto the grid [at our expense of course]

These lines are already in place, since the construction phase of the plant. The process plant still needs power when the utilities plants are having their turnarounds.

I have worked at all the major upgraders in western canada. Suncor, for example, supplied Fort McMurray its power for decades until Transalta wormed their way into the plant and took over the powerhouse. The lines they are proposing are like nothing we have ever seen in Alberta.
The whole thing is a scam.

If we had property rights it would be our money and land, as it stands the government is redistributing it's wealth to the power companies.
The WRA, I understand, has a pretty good policy on property rights. Time to take out the trash.

Check your bills. We're already paying for it. Mine went from $5 something a gig last bill to over $11 this bill.
