Default Life, sometimes you just have to laugh it off

So I was heading into the biggest year/month of my life. My grandbaby was due near the end of July and I have just began my life as a retiree/semi retiree today.

Well on the 14th I had to fly home from Dallas to get some things that were bothering me really badly looked at. I happen to like my doctor and my hospital so I really wanted things looked at here. Anyways, I flew back and got sent for an ultra sound because they *thought* I had a hernia. The results weren't what was expected so I paid to a have a CT scan done, I'm impatient.

In the mean time my daughter had my first grandbaby!!!

The youngest person I have ever held, I am a *step* dad although none of us look at it that way anymore LOL.

So life was looking pretty darn good....til this morning. Looks like I have inoperable stomachache cancer. I will need to have a biopsy done but by looking at everything it doesn't look very good in the long run for me.

Sooooooo....the last 8 years I have spent away from my family really means nothing anymore. I worked hard enough that we would never worry about money and have a relaxing "golden years". Looks like I will not be part of that. So the next time you *may* want to brush off a music performance or a hockey practice for your kid, remember, things can change in a blink of an eye and they care more about time with you than anything money can buy.

I doubt I will be online much more so I just wanted to say thanks to Don and Rob for putting up with me over all these years. Apologize to lil for our little go around awhile back.

And to some of the greatest posters I have met..well interwebby "met" LOL

Osterb..wherever you are
Dick
Cat
Huntin
BB..congrats on the modship..now you have to keep your nose clean :P
Tree...We know we don't see eye to eye on much, but you are one heck of a family man and give you HUGE props for that
Jamie
Duffy
Arn
Wayne
Geezle
Anvil

And a whole whack of others. Thanks for the laughs, the frustration and all the information shared. You all are a great bunch and you will be missed.

Amen to that. Good luck, hopefully something will change. Take full advantage of this "wake up" call and spend all the time you can with your family now.

All the best,

Really sorry to hear of your situation Troller. It does make a man think, when he's busting his butt and working all those extra hours to 'provide' for his family....that maybe providing is more than earning cash. I'm going to set up the kid's trampoline now.....

Glad you got to hold your litte grandbaby...Live the rest well with your family.

Just remember looks like and does have are two seperate things, keep thinking positive, I'm still here and 11 years ago they said I wouldn't be. That's why it's called practising medicine, they can't be right about everything they think

PM sent to you as well,

Wow, sorry to hear it - never know what's coming around the next bend.

This is the best advice you'll ever get - the body can do some incredible things if the mind will let it.

I've never had to deal with any serious illness, but i've had friends and family come back from the brink after battling cancer and being given a death sentence. Stay positive and have people around you be positive, dump the negative in your life. Stay strong, stay positive and keep your chin up.

Wow - that's rough news Troller. My heart goes out to you man.

If that brand new grandbaby isn't a perfect reason for you to win this fight I don't know what is. Hopefully you come out the other side good as new. The only good that comes from these situations is it can teach us what's truly important. Based on your post, I'd say you're already well on your way to figuring that out.

Best of luck man. I think I speak for everyone on here when I say that we'll all be thinking of you often.

I don't feel qualified to offer advice, all I can say is get a second opinion and don't let them limit your choices of treatment. I have spent enough time at the Tom Baker in Calgary to see people given weeks last years and vis a versa.

Focus on that cute baby and fight for all your worth. It is a family fight so speak openly with them and you are never bother or nuisance to them, why, because they love you.

Your post proves you are a gent, now show those mutant cells you are a tough b*stard

thoughts and prayers with you and your family

Troller. This is really sad news. My heart and prayers go out to you and your family.

As for not being around much... I guess you will probably have better things to do, but please drop in as often as you can. This forum is a great place to vent some feelings and to keep a bit of a blog. Also we get they chance to sit around and BS about some of our favorite past times.

Keep working for good news on the biopsy. Keep your spirits up, enjoy each and every minute with your family. Go do everything you have ever wanted to do.

I remember the words of a former member.

NO QUIT and NO SURRENDER

Best of luck
Jamie

Get the biopsy done and get the prognosis from there.

Im sure you have looked up "stomach cancer" already, so I won't go there, but don't give up. Do what you have to do and keep us updated. We are concerned and we care.

Oh, and by the way..................

In 1983 they gave my 49 year old mom a year MAX to live.

On August 3 she will be 76yrs old. She has been back with new cancer spots several times, and she beat it every time.

Never say never.

Do not let this get you down. God has a plan and it will work out...

Doctors are not always right!!!!!!!!
A family friend got stomach and colon and rectal cancer, gave him 45 days... he is now cancer free five years later and loving his grandbabies!
Do not give up, fight with all your heart.
I lost my husband to cancer, it is a hard thing to deal with, but you will get through this, hopefully they have caught it early and they will get it all cleared up. My husband waited too long and he was in the advanced stages of prostate cancer spread to his bones, stomach, ect. Even with a diagnosis of 15 days , he made four years..... make all the time with your family count, and by your post you already know this.....
Let us all know if you need help, or anything else. This forum has a lot of great people on here and we are here to help you through this..........

Right now I am waiting for three sugeries... and I have faith I will be hunting this year no problem.. .......keep your chin up .
Praying for you and your family!

YOU BEAT IT!!!

I lost my Mom and Sister, 3 years ago, 2 months apart to cancer. 6 months later my Wife's mother got it, and beat it.

I would suggest going to Saskatoon, they have the most aggressive cancer treatment I have ever heard of.

FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!

I wish you all the best.

Troller my friend, I've read this several hours ago and it has taken me until now to somehow find the words.........

Your granddaughter is perfect. She will never cease to put a smile on your face no matter how hard she cries, or how disturbingly unnatural the contents of that soiled diaper may be.

She is the angel that has been sent to guide you through your battle. The concept of this is larger than I can ever explain, but I believe a simple '' shall suffice.

While none of us get out of this life alive, doing so on our our own terms is what true warriors do. You are a warrior and this fight will your greatest. Not only do you have a fantastic family believing in you, but there is an entire community of fellow outdoorsmen/women who believe in you also!

Godspeed Troller, and in the words of Ken, "NO QUIT and NO SURRENDER". You are in our prayers and thoughts.

Sean
