Default Suffield bull draw

Thoughts on the hunt that time of year? Do the Bulls migrate off base when the snow flies? Is it lottery or have to burn your priority? Guess on priority needed?

Lots of bulls on base.
Regular draw so priority will be used.

I'm wondering myself how I should apply to the draw? What's the best time? Early season or late? I'm a p9, should I burn it on a 3 day hunt??? Not sure

Default p9

Bulls are always on base. But dont think a p9 will get u drawn. Try it and see. I say you are guaranteed bone.

I'd be very surprised if a p9 doesn't get you one of the 700 tags. Good luck to you. There are some nice bulls on the base. I would think the earlier the better.

LOL. An estimated 8000 plus Elk on the base with a 50/50 bull to cow ratio. What's that leave, roughly 3400 bulls for next year.

How many of those are 2-3 year olds vs. 8-10+ year old bulls?

I hear what you are saying, but how many hunters are going to harvest a 8 year old plus bull on a 3 day hunt? Not every one is a trophy hunter either.

I do agree, this will be the best year for a chance at a bull of a lifetime.

i wouldn't waste a 9 on anything but a first hunt. if you don't get a first hunt get outside the base that's where they'll be

I would say that if someone is going to burn a 10-14 year priority, on a 3 day hunt, they are more than likely looking for the monster. I know I would be!

With this hunt getting so much attention. I think there are going to be some great tags available in other areas that won't need as high a priority as in past years.

If a guy is on the fence about this hunt might be worth looking around in other zones.

Just my 2c

Default draw in jan

I would only dream of pulling the first hunt in jan. After belly full of xmas turkey the big boys will be groggy.
In all honesty I wish my 7 priority was a 10. Thats the route I would go. Big bulls be far away from the cows then. Ahhhhh. What if????
Good luck all.

Default Suffield Bull Draw

I think a newly created hunt should be Lottery not priority.
The people with priority never intended to hunt there.
Everyone equal opportunity,at least the first year.

I am curious as to where you copied that from. according to the 2015 draw booklet online, the dates for the draw code 19 hunts for wmu 732 don't match

The antlered and anterless seasons run at the same time. The base personnel set how many hunters are allowed on the base for each hunt. Each previous hunter count was 100 - 125 each week. That was when the hunt was for Anterless only.

I can't see the base allowing 200-250 hunter each week for 100 - 125 tags for bulls and 100 -125 tags for cows. I would think that a more realistic number would be 100 cow and 25-50 bull tags each season. I do not have any information on that, just what I think would be realistic.

Does anyone have information on how many tags there will be?

I just checked the phyical booklet that I got at Can Tire. The above information is not correct!!!

November 4 – November 7 - 602
November 18 – November 21 - 604
November 25 – November 28 - 787
December 2 – December 5 - 788
January 13 – January 16, 2016 - 789

It looks like the base will be splitting the weeks. Bulls the first half of the week and cows the last half of the week with both hunts open on the Wednesday of the week.

So my previous post of wondering about hunter count may be incorrect as well.

Some people with high priorty most definetly intended to hunt there, hence 999 for so many years waiting for the opportunity to open. I dont see why for the 3 or 4 dollars it costs that people wouldnt be 999ing it to build priority for when these new zones open up.

No one knew with 100% certainty the base would ever open for antlered elk. The ones that stacked priority in the hopes it would happen are happy now though

High priority for 3 days...to each their own.

You mean like the mistake they made last year that cost me a priortity 8 draw? They listed wmu 234 for antlered to run into december unlike other years when it only was until the end of November...then on November 15ish they send out a letter that a mistake was made and the hunt ended end of Nov like normal! FRACKING Moron's!!

For the first hunt I think you would need a P11 to have a good chance. There were 370 people that went 999 last year for antlered elk that had P11 or higher. Not to say they will all be putting in but the first hunt will have the most hype and it sounds like 100 tags for each week.
