Well after my goat hunt I think I'll mozy off to my 438 sheep hunt. I'll round those hunts out with my antlerless elk and 248 cow moose. Oh ya can't forget my northern whitey adventure with hopes of stumbling on that elusive 20" boar in the process. If I hap upon a feral pig I may add that to my deep freeze as well, barring permission from farmers with these "pests".

The good news is that it appears from a recent thread here that most don't like killing animals as part of the hunt. That should keep them from applying and clogging up the draw system. It should increase my odds.

I was just on Relm taking care of this. 999'd most of them, but have put in for my non-trophy sheep.

Default Question for the older guys

So I've search the forums and read what I could about sheep draws and read the draw summary's. I hope can try going for my first sheep next year with a general tag(2016) but I'd still like to start building priority in one special tag. Which would you all suggest? I realize it will take two decades but if I start now I still may draw one by the time I'm 40.
Thanks in advance guys, appreciate the advice everyone gives on here!

Your best bet is the 438 lottery zone... No priority required. Unless you just want to build priority and hope and pray they change something in the future for you ...Otherwise your math is a little off on when you might draw, by maybe 100+ yrs......

agreed, I started applying in one zone about 10 years ago and with the number of people that put in assuming the number of people dropping out of the draw continues I figured I can guarantee to pull the tag when I am 66. (about 30 years) I might get lucky and the people ahead of me drop out at a faster rate or pass away or hit the old folks home. 438 is what I would recommend as well unless you want o try your hand at 410 archery. you might still be able to pull that tag in a reasonable amount of time.

Unless the priority cap is implemented.
Which might take 100 more years to finalize. lol....

Nothing really happening on this end. 999ing everything for both Willy and I.
Nothing is guaranteed so lets just reset and go at it next year.

My Brother has offered to share his MD tag with Willy, so I am sure we will hit the prairies looking for something.

Got a call from a friend today and might go help him with his elk hunt if he pulls a tag. But its a bit of a long shot. This CFB Suffield thing will change up some things.

Good luck all.

Jamie

Will be putting in in the next few days or so but other important life things have come before scouting the areas I know, plus securing more permission in the last few years. Therefore we'll continue to 999 most, which are high to begin with. Don't want to draw and waste them after all these years.

The deer in the area we've been hunting most have been hit hard but moose are thriving. Will probably be drawing a cow moose tag there if all goes well.

Would love to put a non-trophy antelope in the freezer but that would be a week smack dab in my son's football season.
