Default Opinions/experience with Tohatsu outboards?

I am looking to purchase a new 6 HP outboard for my Grumnan Sportsboat and saw that a Tohatsu 6 HP 4 stroke was $1450 or so at the sportsman show. Does anyone run these motors? How do the compare to Honda, Yamaha, and Mercury small outboards? The rep at the show told me there is a 3 year parts and labour warranty.
I would appreciate opinions on these and other small outboard brands.

Tohatsu makes up to 25 hp motors for Mercury and Nissan. I have a 4 hp and it pushes my Zebec 11ft inflatable and the three of us with no problem.

I have had one for the last 4 years and have never had any problems with it.

I have a 20hp and love it. As stated, merc/nissan/tohatsu up to 25 are generally identical. Exception being the legs on the mercs.

In any event, excellent motor. The cheapest place I found in Alberta was Free Spirit in Edmonton. Good luck with the purchase, u will not regret it.

They are built by Nissan, and are HUGE powering sailboat yacht tenders in the Caribbean... in fact, most sailors will not buy anything else.

It's a great choice.

Default Tohatsu outboards

I have a 8 horse tohatsu I love it it starts 1st or 2nd pull every time and has never let me down. It trolls whisper quiet and uses very little fuel.

All Nissan outboard engines in North America are Tohatsus with a Nissan decal. and I believe all Mercury outboards from 30 HP and down are Tohatsu as well. From everything I've been able to find on them they are a pretty decent outboard. Oh Tohatsu is also the 2nd largest outboard manufacturer in the world....

Thanks for the info everyone. I think I'll be visiting Free Spirit Marine and buying a new Tohatsu.
