Default Late season hunt

So, me and a couple friends decided to head down to a different wmu, as so far this season, we haven't had much luck in where we were hunting. It was about a two and a half hour drive out to where we were going to hunt, and come morning, we were running a bit late to make it for first light. We arrived about 15 mins after sun up, and I set up where I planned to and they went on their way further up the lease road. My son had started getting sick the night before, and I was actually debating cancelling, but decided that he was feeling well enough I could still go, as my friends had fought to get the Friday off to hunt, and figured if it got to bad, I could always head back early. Im glad I didn't. I sat for about 20 mins when I heard rustling from behind me, I turned a looked, and low and behold there stood a buck, maybe 30 yards from where I sat, and he had his head down eating. I brought the rifle up. He didn't move, but looked directly at me. I had two options, wait to see if he moves out from behind the two trees he was standing, or take the only shot I had. I decided on the latter. With a pull of the trigger, I hit him in the neck. This is the first time I have ever shot anything, that it dropped exactly where I shot it, no tracking required! This may have been my last hunting trip this year, and I can say I'm happy to have some meat in the freezer! The kids are definitely excited for some deer jerky and steaks!

The rack may not be huge (3x3) but he was a nice size deer! Should get a decent amount of meat from him! And my buddy shot his first ever deer yesterday morning, also a 3x3, from up North. He was quite happy!

For sure! Should be good eating! And i should get a decent amount of jerky for the munchkins, although they tend to steal it as it cools. By the time I come in from putting the second batch on, half of the first is gone and they are running away giggling

Congrats on the buck. I'm a true believer that when plans change for whatever reason, it tends to line up the hunting gods sometimes and put you in the right place at the right time.

Oh I'm sure it will go pretty fast as their tummies get bigger lol my daughter is funny though, doesn't like meat much (she's 3 and very picky) but loves the jerky! But it has to be crunchy otherwise she spits it out if it's to chewy

Delicious looking steaks, and one can never beat the Lipton noodles and sauce either. Great work, Randy!
