Default Brodie knob

Brodie knob, suicide spinner, knuckle buster, wheel spinner, anyone here with experience using one? Any recommendations, tips or tricks using or mounting one? Busted up my shoulder pretty good, surgeon says 12 months before I'll start to regain some use of the arm. Thanks much.

I know a guy that ran with one on his Honda Pioneer 500, he really liked it. Takes a bit of getting used to.

I'm looking at put one on my Ranger. I've seen them a bunch but, mainly on tractors as a kid, have no experience with them. I'll have plenty of time to get used to one based on what the doc is telling me.

Default Brodie knob

They were used in the days before power steering was developed...pretty much no use for it one in this day & age.

I used them for a while back in the early 1960's. If you weren't careful they could hurt you with manual steering. You had to hang on to them. For a while if memory serves me they were outlawed. So they brought ones out that had a small trigger affair that pushing it could make it so it folded down flush with steering wheel. They got quite decorative with clear plastic tops and pin up girls pics in them and some had small dice in them. They were considered cool for a while back then.

I googled these, and see they are still made and available, and I hope one will work for your needs.

Nothing snide intended, but I remember about 60 or so years ago they were more often called 'neckers knobs' and went along with the 'cool' blue lights in the windshield top corners, the fuzzy dice hanging off the rearview mirror and the fox tail tied on to the radio antenna. Groovy.

They got the suicide knob name because in an accident it could impale your chest, banned in most places in the late 60's unless you had a medical disability. In modern times the airbag could help, lots for sale on Amazon.

A friend's Dad had one he lost half his left arm in WW2

I did the Google thing before posting here and did see Amazon had a selection. Some of the replies jogged my memory a wee bit about these things. Does anyone have one on their vehicle? Ag and Ind equipment excluded Thanks for the replies guys.

I thought they were illegal.

I've seen 3 or 4 forklift drivers break a thumb on the things. I take them off any machine I have to drive, still have no clue why they would be needed on a wheel I steer all day with only 1 finger

Have them on both my forklifts. Can’t imagine not having them on. Whenever I trade off a machine I am adamant that the new one comes with one as well.

I have one on my Kubota Lawn tractor. Bought it at the Kubota dealer when I bought the tractor. Used to have them on the Highway tractors I drove in the days before power steering. Also had them on pretty much every forklift I ever operated so you could work them one handed looking backwards. Works absolutely great, especially for around trees or when backing up. No need for them on modern trucks, but on yard equipment they are still a big help. They should be great on a SxS too.
