AO supposedly has over 75,000 members, less than 200 active today, along with about 500 guests.

I tried posting this same problem a few times and the post never made it up. I get the never ending locked screen or the message the server is not responding.

Feels like the forum is being hit with DoS attacks and plugging it up.

I have changed all my passwords so that none are the same.

This site is interesting.

C'mon office. Join the new world.
Security and bandwidth are two different issues.

Sessions timing out is usually a bandwidth issue. I would suggest the issue at hand is a combination of not enough guaranteed bandwidth and a big inrease of the number of concuurrent sessions (connected users).

It is also possible the forum software is running on an antiquated server not capable of handling the number of requests Covid has put on the forum. Only the forum owners know for sure.

Whether it's a standalone bare-metal server or a virtual one it's easy enough to fix the problem. If it's a bandwidth issue, move it to another colocation/hosting site.

If it's a bare-metal box, it might be time for the owners to look at virtualizing it and moving it to the cloud or a virtual server site.

Just remember folks, it costs money to do this and that's likely why they've stuck with whatever platform they're running it on, located wherever it is......because it's cheap.

As for security, moving it to another platform won't make it any more secure really. This type of forum software really isn't made to be secure and you really shouldn't be transferring any important data over it. If I was going to purchase or sell something on here I would immediately move it to email and/or phone using a PM to give my email to whomever. I sure wouldn't send any banking info or anything like that over a platform like this. I'm loathe to do that over email because email too is not secure.

I remember when a 14.4 modem was a thing of the future we dreamed about owning....

I find connection and posting painfully slow regardless of time of day.

Well, I think bandwidth in general is becoming an issue. I submitted on line forms and the little circle the drain thing just kept running. Sent it in again, same result. Called the company, they got the forms twice. Now this place is bad, has been for a long time but other places seem to be getting worse too.

My first modem was 1,200 baud. And it was a huge improvement over the 300 baud modem that I had borrowed.

If it's a hardware issue I could hook you up with a really good used server.

Dual Xeon CPU's (multi core/thread) plenty of RAM, HDD bays (anywhere from 6 to 32 depending on size) and RAID controller.

We've gone virtual at work and I have a bunch of server's I've decommissioned that are presently just sitting there doing nothing. You'd have to supply your own HDD's.
