After reading the other post I would have put money on you bringing this thread to the top.

Another bump to give the Sako/Kimber shooters an opportunity to get in on the action.

I just posted this on another thread re Forbes rifles. There aren't 5 groups of three, only four but since all make the .75, with 2 different bullet weights, 2 bullet makers, 2 types of powder and 2 weights of each powder I think a little latitude on the fifth group would be fair.

308ultra.jpg

The rifle is a NULA by Melvin Forbes so border line whether it qualifies as a high end production like the Cooper. The target has 4 3 shot groups, 2 groups with 150 grain Hornady and different loads of Varget and two with 130 Grain Barnes and different loads of 4895. The target squares are 1/2" on a side. All 12 shoots were fired single shot, after barrel break in, with no barrel cooling time between the 12.

Looks like a decent shooter Dean2 with lots of potential to make the five groups required in the Challenge ---- especially if you narrow your loads to one bullet weight and powder. In posts #7 & #10, I also used "mixed" loads to shoot the groups.

Tried the challenge today , but fell short . Tho my rifle may be up to the task I certainly need more practice ..lol ,It's a good thing deer can't tell if it is hit within an inch of intended point of impact .Kudos to those that can meet the challenge .

Clarification - this CHALLENGE has no caliber restriction, so any factory hunting rifle (even a coyote gun ie: 223 / 22-250 etc) fits the criteria. just no heavy barrel varmint rigs

Here is an excerpt from the Forbes website: That is why ultra Light Arms, in every sense, custom builds your Ultimate Rifle just for you. You can choose from four different right or left handed actions, and specify almost any caliber in the world. You pick from benchrest quality triggers, set up your specification. You decide upon your ideal Douglas premium Grade barrel, as to length, contour. While virtually any barrel available may be specified, Douglas premium Grade barrels are featured and recommended for Ultimate rifles.

If your NULA qualifies then certainly my CZ527 Varmint Kevlar would qualify. It is factory stock except for my choice of a Pac Nor Super Match barrel, 1.00" at the receiver tapering to 0.650" at the muzzle, and my choice of caliber. The top target features 12 consecutive shots, three each with different bullet/brass combinations using the same powder at different weights. I could take this target to the range and shoot a few more, three shot groups, using different powder/bullet/brass combinations into under 0.75". Not sure I could do it at 300 yards like the bottom target though as this is the only load using that "crappy" Remington brass.

This CHALLENGE is for factory production rifles, but for custom stuff, (where the action / trigger/ barrel / and stock can be ordered) the 1/2" Challenge is a great place to show your targets and gear. And, for those who want to give a bit more distance a whirl, there is the 300M Challenge. I will bump these.
Weather is great, lets see some shooting.

I get some time I will have to go shoot it. I am sure this NULA will easily make the 1/2" challenge for custom rifles. Two of the groups are in the .3s. With spaced three shot groups, and all same bullet weight and load it holds the groups pretty darn well.

The 1/2" Challenge is a bit trickier because it requires five consecutive, 5 shot groups. Even with a custom, the light contour barrels will take some patience to meet that standard.

Looks like that Tikka is a shooter. My last 260 likes 130 Berger VLD(H) pushed by H4350. Nice shooting!

Default I was out today

I went out to my range today but before your challenge. I dont qualify but I will post a group I shot to make sure my rifle had maintained zero. I then proceeded to shoot 19 out of 20 at my gong at 500 yrds. I took a little pause after the first 10 shots and missed on my 11th. The wind had come up and I didnt notice it. I adjusted and nailed the next 9 straight. Group was about 6 inches so just a bit over MOA so I was pretty happy. Used my fist as a measuring device so there is a bit of a margin of error.

I was shooting my Tikka T3xi CTR 308 It has a Grs stock but it is not bedded or anything but I do have Atlas Works bottom metal and an AI magazine. Trigger is factory but I have adjusted it down to around 1 KG ish The scope is a Vortex Razor HD II 4.5 x 27 x 50 with the EBR-C mil reticle

had a blast was a really nice morning.

Default Funny but True

Thats actually quite funny, I do have a tendency to sell rifles once I have them tuned. I think Ill try and keep this one though. I am thinking really hard about the 6.5 im going to build. I am really close to just putting the order in on Monday. I wont get it for 6 weeks anyway which is just before spring when I will be shooting even more. Might be a bit easier on the shoulder shooting a 123 scenar.

Do you use H4350 for your 6.5x47 or Varget? I just ordered an 8lb jug of Varget so my hope would be that I could find a nice load with it. I saw a few loads on Accurate Shooter that use Varget.

I used to ...and still know of a couple of guys that get a rifle to shoot well and then sell it. Short attention span. I pretty much stick with H4350 for my 6.5 X 47L's to push 130 VLD (H) Bergers.

I saw the other thread was bumped, so here is a recent day out for me with the weather so mild. I did it for the CGN one, but have moved it here as well so maybe a few other members will try with the warmer weather as of late. This is far from easy to do with a factory rifle.

Range Day Jan 11/19. -8°c. The rifle is a Tikka T3 lite lefty in 22-250. All factory other than I sanded the pressure points out of the stock to float the barrel. Hand loaded with 50gr. Ballistic Tips, and Reloader powder, it has always shot well.
First picture is my range and distance is 100 Yards.

Next up is the rifle and rest.... Please be kind to my crappy one piece plastic rest. Yes, probably should buy something better, but it works. I have shirts over the rubber ends so the rifle can recoil a bit more natural, and I have found that the rubber will grip the rifle just enough to affect groups.

The groups pinned on the backstop. I found the last group harder to shot, my nerves were getting to me.

Paper target inside for a good picture.

Measurement of worst group.... last group

Best group

The numbers for the groups are as follows:
1) .705 - .224 = .481
2) .485 - .224 = .261
3) .658 - .224 = .434
4) .512 - .224 = .288
5) .810 - .224 = .586
Average group size is .410
