Scored a laminate stainless version in .260 few years back for my son. I keep stealing it and using it. Love that gun, great for bush work and has the legs to stretch it out if I need to. Used it to take a large bodied whitetail at 309 yards.

Another option would be the Ruger American Predator. The 308 has a 18'' barrel for a reasonable price. I'm not a huge fan of the stock but it could be replace with a Boyds stock and look a lot better.

I have a Ruger M77 Ultra Light in 308 that I will never get rid of. The whole rifle is a slimmed down M77 with a 20" pencil barrel on it. I think I would prefer this over just a short barreled M77. It carries very well and points just so naturally it just becomes an extension of me. It is far from the most accurate rifle I own with its best 3 shot groups with my handloads hovering in the 1.5 to 1.75 inch area....But I have killed more deer elk and antelope with it then all the rest of my rifles combined for the simile reason, it is a joy to carry.
If you can find an Ruger Ultra Light check it out, you may like it even better.

Just picked up a Ruger 77 Hawkeye SS Compact in 7mm-08 this afternoon. I was looking at the ads on CGN this morning and there just happened to be one for sale in town. Doesn't look like it had ever been shot. Not a mark on it. I'll probably only be in the dog house for a few days with Christmas coming up so all is good. Lol.

I used to own an m77 in .308. Tang safety, 20" barrel. I hated the muzzle blast. I could never shoot It well. I traded it for the same rifle in 338 win mag but 24" barrel. I love my 338. Multiple Elk, deer, bear, moose...and someday, yes one day....a sheep.

I have a .223 cal. It's been a great rifle for varmints and carrying all day. Super light, easy to shoot and anyone can shoot it and not struggle.
I have a Ruger Stainless Laminated Compact comes with an extra Boyd stock. .223 cal.
Message me if your interested.
