Default advice for first bear hunt

I am hoping to bag a bear yet this spring. Thinking of going west of sundre to the forestry trunk road and seeing where i get from there. What should i be looking for as far as where i should be able to find them? any other advice for hunting this area would be appreciated as well.

Check cut lines early in the morning and late afternoon. Put on some miles. Bears are incredibly easy to find this time of year. Might not be a big one but you should be able to see some bears at least

Bears are incredibly easy to find this time of year.

Think I'd plan on working pretty hard for one, in that neck of the woods. Further north the better, even west of Rocky.

Grizzly has it right. I haven't seen much for Black Bears or sign of them west of Sundre.

Default Grizzly

Keep your eyes open back there though. We had a Momma grizzly and two cubs hanging around Deer flats area back there last spring....they had quite a wide range, talked to quite a few who saw them in many locations.

Bears are scarce by Nordegg. Talked to a pile of operators and they have seen zero. Although lots of wolves.
I put in 200 miles today as baits were slow. Only 2 hitting and Boss man has to get one.
200 miles 3 bear scat piles. Zero bears. Maybe scared off thinking this forest is going to burn too.
Have talked to tons of bear hunters I highly respect and all saying same. Weird year in 300s.

I wouldn't trust anecdotes very often on a forum. Nordegg holds bears. Fox creek area. Swan hills. Pick a spot and go for a drive. The best part is you might find a new moose area or elk or deer spot. I found an incredibly moosey area while out baiting last year. Never a bad day scouting

I'd be looking between Rocky and Nordegg, further west you go, more chance of Grizz than black. North of H 16, odds improve quickly.
