257 weatherby magnum

After lots of reading and studying on the 257wtby mag, I finically decided that it is the last rifle to add to the collection. But I hit a road block with many people loving the caliber but are unsatisied with the rifle of choice. I'm leaning towards a Vanguard being I havnt heard much cons about them other then being cheap but it seems like a lot of people are unhappy with the mark V. What's everyone shooting there 257 out of? And how do you like yours?

I had one last year that was in an Accumark. Quite accurate, but also very heavy. I think a good choice would be a Vanguard Backcountry in 257 Wby.

I have a Vanguard Backcountry in 257 and also have had an Accumark in 257. I would say the Accumark was excessively heavy and was not any more accurate than the Vanguard. In my opinion the new Vanguard 2's are 1 of the best value's for your dollar on the market. I have 3 other caliber's and they all shoot incredibly well with reloaded ammo.

I've had Vanguards and MkV's in 257, it's a great caliber. As stated above, the MkV's are not only heavy but a lot more money and they don't shoot any better than the Vanguards, dollar for dollar the Vanguards are the best deal but it all depends on what you want. I don't care for the new MkV's much and prefer the old German and Jap guns.
I see Series II synthetic Vanguards for $599 and that's a lot of rifle for the money!

Agree. I love my s2. Very accurate. No issues at all with it.

Vanguard s2 is a real good rifle for the money. Maybe the best value out there. Only knocks might be they're on the heavier side, which I prefer, and the longer bolt throw. Accuracy is very good. 24" barrel is nice. No cheap hollow plastic stock like some of the higher priced brands. No plastic trigger guard or bolt shroud like some higher priced brands.

Handle one first is always the best advice. If it doesn't feel right in your hands it doesn't much matter what other features it has.

I also wanted a .257 Wby. but couldn't decide on a rifle. I finally purchased a Ruger #1 in 25-06 and had it re-chambered to .257 Wby. I have been very happy with it and Ruger later brought out the #1 in this caliber.

I had a Mark V in 257wby, and liked the cartridge, but was disappointed in the accuracy of the rifle, as well as the accuracy of my Mark V in 300wby. I rebarreled and rebedded the Mark V, and the groups shrank to less than half of what they were previously.

There is no doubt in my mind the Vanguard will shoot as well as any other "off the shelf" rifle out there at or near that price point.

Shooting a Vanguard right beside a RC Wby there is very little difference (at least in the hands of the common/average guy off the bench). It's practically indiscernible.

I think you are leaning the right way.

I have a few WBY's and one of them is a 257 - no complaints, easy to shoot, extremely accurate and kicks less than my 06'. Only down size is it's expensive to feed.

I've had 3 different 257 Weatherby's. Two were Vanguard 2 rifles that shot 100 grain TSX bullets sub 1/2" at 100 yards. The other was a MKV Lightweight that did the same but cost 4 times more. The only complaint I had about the vanguard was the trigger. But for around $120 you can put in a Timney and it will perform as good as a $2000 Weatherby.

I have a .257 Weatherby Magnum in the Stainless Vanguard 2 model. My wife and kids bought it for me with my 60 th birthday. It likes the 100 grainers the best but also likes the 110 Nosler Accubonds. I use H1000 powder with Nosler brass and Fed 215 primers. One of the best values on the market today.

They shoot as well or better than rifles costing a lot more actually.

I'm gonna pull the trigger on the vanguard accuguard and get a timney trigger installed. It costs less then the accuguard with the same great look and accuaracy! Thanks everyone!
