Default Glendon woman convicted of four counts of mischief, after admitting to setting 32 fires

https://www.lakelandtoday.ca/local-n...-fires-5052191

A Glendon woman has been convicted of four counts of four counts of mischief against property in connection to multiple arsons in the Bonnyville and Lac La Biche areas.

“After carefully assessing the file and all the available evidence, the Crown prosecutor made the decision to accept guilty pleas to four counts of mischief against property (Criminal Code s.430(4)),” according to a statement provided by the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service to Lakeland This Week.

“Further, Ms. Dunham specifically admitted she had set all 32 fires, and she was sentenced for everything that she admitted to,” the statement continued.

An investigation led authorities to Dunham who was 54 years old at the time.

At the time of her arrest, four wildfires were located nearby with a total of 19 wildfires having been ignited over the course of a few hours.

Dunham was sentenced to a 9-month jail sentence. However, she was permitted to serve her sentence in the community in accordance with a conditional sentence order, states Alberta Crown Prosecution Service.

Dunham was also sentenced to an additional 18-month probation sentence.

That sentence is a total farce, she should have received at least 30 days per fire.

Of course along with that harsh sentence she will be prohibited from purchasing or being in possession of a BIC lighter

WTH is wrong with these people??? The damage and risk caused by these fires justifies a lot of years behind bars IMO... And a slap upside the noggin!

Exactly, she put millions of dollars of property, as well as lives in danger, an appropriate sentence would be years in prison. The sentence is a joke, and certainly no deterrent.

Anarchists ? They thrive on senseless destruction because they belive it leads to the destruction of society. I guess she could be sued for damages in a civil court.

Transport her immediately north to fight fires for the summer. Obviously a bum so now she can have a real job.

Hopefully the locals that she encounters or lives near find a way to express their appreciation for what she did.

I'm at a loss for words for the incompetencies of the justice system. It just boggles my mind.

If her intent was to assist the blueberry crop I suspect there are more issues with her at play here.

Offences from April/May 2021 according to the article.

At first , I thought it was for the spring 2023 fires , I was impressed by how fast the police and justice system handled the whole thing.

On an other note , the sentence is a joke

In long, long ago days, setting fires was apparently common practice for that reason and to improve grazing, enough said.

The first thing we have to do is stop calling it a justice system. It is nothing more than a legal system. No justice involved.

It is a liberal legal system, where criminals are treated as victims, with no accountability for their actions.

Nova Scotia, setting one forest fire is $25,000 fine and upto 1 month in Jail. No historical justification for setting forest on fire. Stupidity is Stupidity!

Default Un-treated mental illness?

What we may be seeing here is untreated mental illness. One of the unexpected side effects of cutting mental health services. Similar to the stabbings on the Calgary LRT.

Hate to play armchair psychologist but I agree. At minimum this woman is a few berries short of an orchard…
