Default Another "This old shotgun" thread. Ext hammer double

Need some help identifying this old hammer gun and if possible determining if it's safe to use with #4 or 6 lead shot for upland birds by the proof marks.
It locks up very tight and is in very good shape overall. I don't think it has Damascus steel barrels, can't see the usual patterns in the steel.

Likely also another "Hey Cat got a minute"?

Belgian made for the North American export sales, Eaton's .
If it's tight, youth loads would work fine , or the Intl. Trap 24 gram loads from Kent .
Hodgon also has a 700x load that only develops 5600 PSI, and there are lots of Older loads around .
Oldgutpile is close to you in Brooks and can help.

Is that not Damascus patterning in the top photo on both barrels towards the top of the pic?

I’m definitely not a shotgun guy, but there is some roll pattern there no?

Cat is the shotgun master here though, so he’ll know

The proof marks are for superior BP proofs , and it does look like damascusing, yes.
However , with lighter smokeless loads as youth or 24 gram loads , as long as the wood is tight , it will be fine .

This may be off topic, but does anyone know the difference between, Damascus, Fluid steel, and Steel, barrels on older shotguns? And are there any other different types of barrels.

Fluid steel is actually drawn steel, and London Twist steel barrels are all different types of manufacture .
I don't know how to post a link very well on my phone , but there are videos online for each.
Damascus barrels can still be special ordered from a few English makers but you better have a pile of disposable income! LOL
