Default Shotgun for women

Hey Guys,

My 72 year old Mother has expressed interest in coming out to shoot clays with me.
I shoot a 12g BPS and I’m wondering if I should have her shoot that or rent a 16/20G gun for her to use?

I like a 20 gauge gas gun for anyone that may be recoil sensitive.

A heavy or semi auto 20 would be nice. Ours is a light pump action and it's still ok to shoot.

A semiauto 20 would make her time much more enjoyable

My wife started out shooting trap with a Beretta A400 Xplor 20ga. Eventually when she got a little more serious she bought herself a dedicated trap gun. She still shoots the A400 for hunting, skeet and the occasional round of sporting clays. The A400 is about 1lb lighter than my SX3 20ga which is nicer for a woman to carry around a course and the recoil with a target load is extremely soft. There is one for sale currently on Canadiangunnutz NIB in 20ga w/28" bbl for $1875. I paid $1900 for my wifes NIB about 4 years ago. I almost bought the one on cgn so she'd have a backup gun but hers has been 100% troublefree so I didn't bother. Might be an ideal gun for your mother. It comes with the factory supplied hard case, three chokes, choke wrench, shim kit and spacers to adjust the stock for lop, cast, drop at comb and poi.

My kids started on a 20ga Franchi Affinity 3 compact

Super light and just load with those reduced recoil/light loads

Its feather light but hardly kicks

Ah so this isn't akin to a "Bear defense thread".

Stock fit is more important the gauge. But a nice fitting gas gun in 20 or 16 gauge would be my recommendation. But 16 gauge stuff is hard to come by.

especially! with the HHR reticle. (no duplex pls.)
- older 6x fixed scopes with fine X or target dot.

Could try renting a 20ga that fits her and see if she enjoys it, if she does look for something that feels comfortable. My wife shoots a browning silver field micro midas, it has a shorter stock and it fits her well. Hers is a 12ga and she handles it good, I'm sure a 20ga would be better yet.

Also a little heavier 12 semi might be a good option as 20 gauge ammo is getting tougher to find and alot more to purchase when You do.
I have a Girsan mc12 and swapped out the recoil pad. For the money they are a heck of a Benelli knock off.
Inertia driven and shoot standard 12 gauge trap loads no issue. Price point of half a Browning.
My 13 year old son and wife can both shoot it no issue. Alot of people don't realize lifting a shotgun works muscles you don't use alot. Have the person lift and mount practice aiming loading unloading with snap caps at home. Mimic a round of trap 25 mounts loads etc every day. After a few weeks they won't get as tired and there scores will go up.

She came out with me last week. They didn’t have any low recoil 20g shells but did have 12g low recoil.
She decided to use my 12g bps with the low recoil and didn’t find the recoil bad. By the end the gun it’s self was feeling heavy

She called me the next day to tell me that she wasn’t sore and wanted to coke along again so that’s a win
