Default First game thread (my sons first buck)

With 5 kids and all kinds of extra activities, the wife’s side business, my job we haven’t had a lot of hunt time but we managed to do bit of hunting on Sunday. With the oldest reffing a hockey game in the morning and the 12yr old not being a morning hunt person my 4 year old son and I went out for a late morning mid day walk. Walking and calling/rattling with my son running the grunt tube and myself on the antlers we managed to only locate does in a few spots surprisingly no bucks. Covered a about 2 miles making it back home for a late lunch. For the evening it was almost a full family affair, wife and 2 sons in one spot and myself and 2 sons in another. (Daughter at home as she’s not very interested). No shots from my wife’s area but they did have a good encounter with a doe and 2 fawns. Cool for the kids to see that with my youngest 3 year old son with mom and oldest 15. With 10 minutes of legal light at our spot I was really hoping for some first timer last 10 minute magic as we hadn’t seen anything yet in our sit, and we got it. With my son set up on shooting sticks facing south and my other son asleep on my lap from the the long walk earlier. A buck comes slowly cruising through the slough bottom to the west. He stops takes and drink before slipping into the edge of the trees, as were making shooting stick adjustments on the fly with my son sleeping in my lap. He got set up good and the buck stopped and waited for him just like it was meant to be. About 100 yrd broadside shot he drilled him perfectly. Berger doing its job flawlessly, made hamburger out most of the lungs and about 1/3 of the heart. Deer was dead instantly. Was so proud of the boy! We had a good celebration. Sleeping 4 yr old knew exactly what happened as soon as he was startled awake by the gun shot. So so proud. A little teary as I write.

Four upcoming hunters! In a few short years, you'll never have to drag a deer out of the woods again! Great story & pictures - Thx for posting them.

Awesome! Nothing better than hunting with my kids. Can't wait until they are big enough to get their own. Must be an awesome feeling! Congrats.

That is a great first deer, it's bigger than most I've shot and still shoot. Congratulations on a successful hunt.

Awesome first deer for your son and good on you for getting the family out hunting! I also spent this past weekend hunting with my younger kids and even though no shots were taken, we had a great time making memories......
