Default Dad's first elk

Helped my dad get his first Bull elk yesterday. We put him in a spot that overlooks the edge of a field where pigs sometimes come blasting out. I went down to the bottom and started pushing bush and about three quarters of the way through I hear two shots! Then I get a text saying "I just shot at a bull elk!" I met up with him about 30 minutes later and there was this huge look of disappointment on his face. He couldn't find any blood or hair or anything to suggest he hit the animal. He thought he might of led him too much as he was running through the field. We followed what we thought were his tracks going into the bush and not 30yards in we see him laying there. The first shot destroyed his shoulder and the second hit his lungs/ heart. What a great experience and so happy we were able to get an elk on the ground

Awesome, congrats! Great feeling eh?

Winter elk coats can absorb an insane amount of blood. Not uncommon at all

Default elk

Well done for older guy like me. My bull elk was same shoot twice after I tracked him to his bed, hit him in neck and through lungs. No blood just one drop, 50 yards later stone dead. Really need to check their tracks after shots.

Whoa,, let's not the give millennials any ammo with "older guy" comments,,,,, us "boomers" aren't anywhere near being ready to be put out to pasture!!! To paraphrase an popular broadway musical song the millennials likely don't know,,,

"Anything a millennial can do,,,, us boomers can do better!!!!"

Congrats, Dad, on a very unique trophy... a one horned 6 point elk!!!! (wonder what happened to the side?)

Pike mentioned it before but the average age of us three young hunters was 79. Sure got our exercise hauling elk 1/2 mile out of the timber.

Not to take away from nice elk hunt, us two 70+ hunters just back from 3 day moose hunt, managed a nice 36 inch bull moose, but we brought a young 60 year strong guy this time to help haul it out of the bush.
