Some use ozone generators.

Change out the cabin filter.

Have a detailer go in and clean all the vents out.

Large truck dealers have aerosol "bombs" they use to fumigate trucks. I know we got them from freightliner, you just set them in the truck and turn the fan on high, set it off and let it do it's thing for about 20 min. and the vehicle smells much better. They must generate ozone to get the smells out, works great on a smokers truck.

Fabreeze in a spray bottle works well.as mentioned above, if you have a cab filter, get it out first.

I've used fabreeze with good success getting 5+ years of incar smoking out. Took a couple times, but worked good.

Put a wet dog in the back seat for a couple of trips. That, or eat a lot of bacon on your burgers on a few rides.

This. You can buy them at a lot of car washes. About 15 bucks. Worked great on my pick up.

Aerosol Bomb is fast and easy, generally effective. If that doesn't fully do it put an Ozone generator in it for 12 hours, the Ozone ALWAYS does the job. If you buy the right one you can use it for hunting clothes etc after and put it over your stand.

Just bought a 49 year old car, didn't smell great.

Removed all the seats and carpeting. Found a basketball sized mouse nest under the back seat from many years ago. Used 3 bottles of Febreeze antibacterial. I pretty much SOAKED everything in Febreeze. Especially underneath or the bottom of the seats, that is where smells tend to hang.

Car smells great now. Been over a week and it's pretty good.

It only took about an hour to gut that interior, yours might take a bit more work but it was worth it.

Don’t let Treeguy or Ken in your vehicle. Problem solved! 😉

Coffee grounds work believe it or not. Spread them all over and let sit for a couple days, vacuum them up then park the car in the sun with doors, trunk etc. opened. Couple days in the sunshine and it’s going to smell a lot younger.

You need a Ozone treatment. There are rattle cans and professional service shops that offer it. I've used the can and it got the smell of cigarettes out of a truck.

I've done it both by removing seats and carpets and washing and drying the carpets outside the car while wiping down the interior sheet metal surfaces with a spray cleaner & shop vac. I've also wet-shampooed the seats & carpets in place. When doing it in place I used a few buckets of hot water with Oxy-clean and either a carpet shampoo or laundry detergent. I'd scrub it in to the carpets with a stiff bristled deck brush but for the seats I used scrub brushes that were more gentle, on the headliner I used surgical fingernail brushes from Lee Valley Tools, they're real gentle and do the job without damaging the fabric. Anyways, I'd use the suds very generously, scrub heavily and then shop vac it out and then repeat. After this I ran a smaller Stanley carpet fan for a day in a few different positions so it would dry before anything nasty grew in the moist environment. This was on a used Passat wagon and the interior looks new, it was just dirty and had dog hair everywhere and cola spritz on the headliner but thankfully no tears or scuffs.

You and Bessiedog should swap Intel. He had two old hobos doing the horizontal mambo in his vehicle the other night and might have similar issues in a week or so.

Hope it doesnt get hot around CNP this week Bessie

cabin air filter, febreze spray and a new pine air freshner , if all that doesn't work just get a bucket of KFC and leave it in the vehicle overnight

Don't leave it in there for too long, as ozone could damage some rubber and vinyl. Maybe try it for an hour or two to start with.

How to Remove Car Odors in 6 Steps - AmmoNYC

Interior Smoke & Odor Removal - AmmoNYC

This guy is a top-notch automotive detailer. The videos are 7 & 13 min long, not much to lose if it's not useful to you.
Bad odors usually require a complete interior shampooing, plus an odor neutralizer (Ozone or baking soda).
Cabin filter replacement is a must also...
