How to kill the ants, not the plants?
Good day,
I have black ants that are aggressively taking up residence around a couple of my Raspberry bushes. One hill is basically on top of the roots of one bush. I have usually used boiling water, or the local ant killing chemical in the past, but I'm sure neither of those are great for plant roots.
How do I kill these ants without disrupting, or killing my Raspberry bush?
Thanks!

Can also try soapy water spray directly on ants.

Just sprinkle it all over (dry), not mixed with water?

Diatomaceous earth. Completely harmless and works for a lot of garden pests. can be used as a dewormer for dogs also.

Some good information on this site. Can be purchased at UFA among other places. Used in cattle feed to prevent clumping and to kill bugs also.

Stir up the nest till you see eggs.
Spray with Ant be Gone.

Yes dry I had a large hill that came back every year tried boiling water, gas, a fire then I tried the icing sugar and baking soda mix, poured a pile on top of the hill covered with an aluminum plate and a rock to keep the rain off.
The ants guts can't handle the gas produced and they die, best of all they feed it to the queen.

I am also not using chemical repellent because I am affraid of the damage of surroundings. So thatswhy I am using 1 part lemon juice to 3 parts water, mixing it in spray bottle. Spray it on them and it should destroy the scent trais that ants are following... So best of luck!

Well it's been 3 days, but 1 day was pretty damp. Ants are still at it, but seem to have reduced numbers. I will give it a couple more days before I try something else. I'm sure something like this needs a few days, not like the biohazards I've created with dealing with ants further from my food plants.

Diatomaceous earth. Cheap, safe, quick and effective. You can also get it at Canadian Tire with non toxic bait already mixed in.
