Waterfowl
How has the late spring been up there? Lots of water for the ducks and geese? Crops looking good for the fall? Counting the days until October gets here.
Cheers

Early spring, and dry in the south. Potholes are dissappearing.

Lots of birds
There are lots and lots. The geese have chicks now and so do some of the ducks. There are Huns too.

The waterfowl hunting up north last year was great, it's looking like this year will be even better. Can't wait for Sep.1st.

Should've worded that better. "late spring" as in the time of year, it's not quite summer. I know the early portion of the spring season brought good rains but I was wondering about the later portion of the spring.
Sounds like there will be ample opportunity to see some birds again this fall!!
Lots of canola this year planted?

Unless someone knows something I do not, I've always known canola to be everything a duck doesnt want or need. With the big payout farmers get for planting it, I was wondering if more land was planted in it vs the grocerys ducks love?

I can't help you out regarding the plantings this year. The more canola that is planted, the fewer feed fields the birds have to choose from.
That can be a good thing.
BTW, I take back my dry comment from earlier. It's not dry anymore.

There is no spring in Calgary, just springter, a mix of spring and winter , but mostly just crap.
It's looking like a bad June monsoon season is shaping up, hopefully that does not kill of too many of the upland chicks.

I hate to hear that!!! When I lived in South Dakota a bad spring meant it was even harder to freelance upland game in most of the state.
We have been calling June "Junuary" down here in Washington. Been in the middle 50's with rain for most of the "late" spring. Can't wait to see that bright fireball in the sky.

another hatch?
If a duck fails it will often try again but they will not have 2 hatches in a year. Not this far north anyway. Geese just don't.
