Default Any vets here?

My 5 year old rottie won't eat, has no energy, pukes any water he tries to drink, won't even look at food (cooked chicken)...
Last night he chewed a mat at the front door and I'm worried the he's 'blocked' with some of the material from the mat. He normaly doesn't chew stuff ( he actually sleeps on that mat). We will take him to the vet in the am.... But it hurts to see him like this. lethargic is an understatement!!
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I'd get him to the vet quickly. Years ago I had a shepherd that decided to chew on and eat some carpet, got her to the vet too late. She died because of being blocked up with carpet.

Good luck, silverado. My thoughts are with you. Worrying about a member of the family is exhausting.

Default Sick Rottie

Foreign body ingestion/gastrointestinal obstruction would be high on the list of suspicion.

Good history, physical exam, blood and urine analysis and abdominal radiographs is likely the best place to start.

Your vet needs to look in the belly one way or another with this type of presentation. Options are essentially x-rays, ultrasound or exploratory surgery. In the meantime IV fluids and supportive care.

Dogs that vomit often get electrolyte abnormalities which need to be corrected.

You need to treat this in a timely fashion. Foreign bodies (if this is what the problem is) can be bad news. Not all foreign bodies will show up on x-rays or ultrasound, and if the bloodwork rules out other major problems and shows that the dog is stable enough, exploratory surgery may be warranted.

Good job on taking him to your vet in a timely fashion.

Good luck

Thanks guys..
X-rays didn't show much, but they did show that his small intestine walls are way thicker than they should be. Just talked to the vet and he said General kept down his meds and was going to try some soft food. He has been on an IV all day and I'm told he is a lot more active. He was getting pretty dehydrated when we took him in.
The wife is having a tough time with it... We can only hope he passes what ever he ate or the vet finds it.
Thanks again.

Default Dog x rays

No disrespect intended, but be careful about the interpretation of gut wall thickness based solely on radiographs.

I am glad he is feeling better.

It was the small intestines walls that he said were way too thick. I'm guessing that the dehydration may not be helping that.

out of curiosity....what kind of food do you use.....

we went through a very similar episode and $2,000 at the emergency vet and a whole lot of stress later.....we still have no answers........but the symptoms were the same.......by the way.....full recovery for now....

my own opinion is there is something floating around in some foods.....

we brought General home today!! what a difference a day makes. The vet thinks that he may have got an infection from the rug. So he has some drugs to take for a bit but he seems good.
Thanks

Glad everything turned out fine for you.
My Lab got into the same type of problems last year, and it's tough to see them that way, for sure. Turned out great anyway.
