Default 2021/2022 Cold Lake Fishing and Ice Reports

Well that was a bust, we went out in the old f150 Walmart 4 by 4 special and yup she snowed last night, warm temps made the snow about a foot and half too much and got stuck!!!
Got over to garnet and started to shovel and push and curse but to our rescue Darryl I believe from Spruce Grove showed up and with his tracked side by side pulled us out effortlessly.
Would only take a hand shake so all I could do was wish him the best of luck in the tourney and karma is sending him a 40” inch lake trout soon!!!

Lots of vehicles getting stuck due to the warmer temps can’t wait for the skandic SWT to arrive for next year as we are getting too old to dig out half ton trucks!

Gonna take the quad for the rest of the season I guess.

Yes, reports are slow but seems to be the old walleye presentation is working best, large jig head and a minnow just off the bottom from 50-140 fow

A tournament of patience is what it is

I found it pretty tough today. It was drifting a bit so I chickened out on Garnett. Marked alot of fish by the park but they were biting real light. Ran up to English Bay after lunch and got a pretty good run going. White CLS tipped with a little piece of anchovie. Most were caught within a couple feet of bottom.

Does anyone know if there is an ice road or trail over to Murray Island? Heading out next weekend with group of us with trucks and hopes of getting around the lake??

We bailed after getting stuck

But ran into people and had multiple chats with them to change up their tactics and they did well so I guess we got lots

Good thing about being retired is I can get out when everything is perfect, thick ice, easy going, no wind and warm temps....almost like sitting on a beach

Haha I wish we could have had that chat . Tough going Friday and Saturday. Even the trusty jig and a minnow wasn't working

We went in at Birch estates, dodge dually one ton chained with cargo trailer, busted through some flood water in a few places, the boys crowded the 80 cm several times but couldn’t get er done. Slow fishing for sure. Deep snow, flood water, steep hill. The truck had a work out to get 3-4 km out on the lake to Murray island

I've only been to the island once and we accessed through the estates but I thought it was more like 10k unless my trip meter was way off. Getting multiple in the 80cm range over a couple days isn't anything to snuff at on that lake imho pretty impressive actually, nice work.

Yeah, it was definitely a battle getting around out there in a vehicle. I think I did just as much shoveling out as I did fishing yesterday. Luckily I managed to hook into an 86 5 cm Laker. Good enough for 4th place.....just out of the money .

Lol, hard to gauge the distance when your winding all over the lake lol, but ya I may have been light on the distance

Your one crazy fella to venture out with that rig but you gotta admire perseverance and a strong back

Two weeks ago I watched a fella pull up a laker 36” and after all the hooting and cheering I told him thats the tournament winner just a bit early.

Tough go this weekend, too bad the weather didn't have so many pressure changes. We put in around 30 hours of fishing, Think I landed 18.
My buddy had a tank on but lost it. We had the best luck in 140 feet of water and down sizing lures.

Hats off to the guy in the dually with chains on pulling the camper. Hopefully his neck isn't sore from driving in reverse so much.

Thanks to the organizers for the weekend

The fish were definitely picky for the tournament. We set up away from the crowds Friday morning for the weekend....and once we are set up (me my wife and our 2 year old) .....we don't move lol. We caught lots of quality fish but didn't get anything over 72cm. I ended up 40th for my 3 fish total with a 68 a 69 and a 71. I did however catch a new PB burbot at close to 34".
All in all was a pretty good weekend other than the brutal wind Friday night and Saturday morning.

Default Your welcome 58thecat

Happy to help you out Gregg. Nice meeting you in person. Nice to put a face to 58thecat. Never caught the fish to win lol. But we did get on some burbot at that location. Will have to hook up one day to fish together. There to help anytime.

Snobear....that’s cheating

I saw that rig out on the ice and thought now that’s ice fishing in style!

Do you think a guy could make it to the island with a half ton?

Go in pairs there is some flood water about 200 meters after you get on the lake and there’s no going around it. It’s about 80 feet long and it’s a beast
