Default Solunar Forcasts

Hey all

Has anyone tried fishing to the Solunar forecast. Is there any truth to it? Does it actually work? Been wanting to test it out but peak times are always when I'm busy.

I find that I have better success during peak phases. However the weather seems to be a much greater factor on fish moods.

Solunar probably more of a factor for fishing where tides come into play.

Default A walleye weather report:

Better to invest in a barometer and study the effect of pressure ridges or fronts; about $20 at Lee Valley gets one you can keep with you. Full moons are great in Autumn for night fishing for giant walleye. Same as a small chop and variable cloudiness during the day fills the livewell.

Default Low pressure is the enemy

I'll give you a 'fer-instance'. I just spent twenty hours in the boat over the course of 3 days. Beautiful weather; clear skies, heat, light winds. The barometric pressure was constant at 98 kPa or about 29 inHg. Optimum is 101.3 kPa or 29.9 inHg. Today it's sitting at 100.9

Nothing. Not even a pike. Blades, Lindys, crank baits/plugs, jigs/glide baits at 0.5 to 3.2 mph. Nothing. In a lake where I've never been skunked. Boat ran great and the launches were easy.

It makes a big difference in tidal water. Full moons equate to bigger tides which means more current that the predators use to their advantage to catch baitfish.
Given the option I’ll fish a few days before the full moon and the following couple of days after. In reality I fish whenever I’m on days off and the swell is small enough I can get out there.

When I was researching where to catch swordfish out front here I found a study done over a 12 year period on the longline swordfish capture. One of the things they graphed was the moon phase. For every fish they caught on a new moon they caught 2.5 fish on a full moon. This is the resulting data from millions of hooksets over many years.

I never noticed any difference in freshwater. The fish were always biting when I had hooks in the water.
