Default Picked up a Fly Tying Kit...

I picked up a fly tying kit a few days ago. Here's some that I got creative with. Excuse the crappy camera...

The top one here is more or less a foam ant, and the bottom one is kind of like a chernobyl.

This guy is a mutant, was experimenting with hopper legs.

Here's a couple foam hoppers that I feel turned out pretty well

This one is an orange stimmie without the elk-hair on top that they typically have. The other ones I tied with the hair I found that they floated sideways so I'll try without.

This last guy is pretty cool, looks like a small goldeye or something. I think a larger version might do well in the NSR here in town.

Cool stuff. Don't let anyone tell you you will save money tying your own though, it is an addiction, a healthy one at least!

Oh my plan isn't to save money, my plan is to have something to do over the winter, and have the coolest flies ready for the next spring!

So Hey chubb, you mind if I borrow some of your patterns? I'm a fan of your work.

Very decent first efforts....perhaps you could come along to one of the tying and beer nights I am organising for during the winter.

Smile Don't give up on elk hair

Keep trying you'll keep getting better. Some of these guys are very good. If you use less hair or put it mainly on top of the fly, like a caddis, or a hopper, it should work fine.

Keep your eye open for materials that are free and you can use, like deer hides that the hunters don't want, and lots and lots of duck and pheasant feathers.

Welcome!

Now that I think about it, I don't think the hair is to blame. I used streamer hooks for those other flies and they were a bit heavy, also I tied the foam under the shank to conceal it, which all together made my fly a bit top heavy.

I think the hair is definately going to take some practice though, it's not as easy to work with as foam or feathers.

Thanks for the compliments everybody.

thank you...you copy whatever you like. You should really do a search for some fly tying sites and see some expert work though. I would post links but its against site rules.
keep up the good work

Cool stuff. Welcome to the addiction. Now just wait until you catch that first fish on a fly that you tied. It is still a thrill today to know i tied a fly that fooled a fish into thinking it was part of it's food.

Those look good. Good job, you seem to pick it up quite well. its all about experiementation. you never know until you try. I have tied some flies I like to call lightning bugs. Im not gonna tell any of you what they are but they work awesome on Dolberg. I've hooked and caught some monsters on them, and have also gotten the most bites using them. Glad to see more people tying flies.
