Default fishing so slow

Tried two different trout ponds already thanks to the warm weather, but the fishing is really slow. Actually no bite at all for the recent two trips. Feel like these ponds are dead for this time of the year.

Is anyone else have the same feeling? Is anyone has the list of the fish stock schedule?

Definitely slow but have managed to catch some - they are light biting I find. Also noticed schools of minnows being chased so reckon the trout are gobbling these up instead of my not as tasty offerings

A couple of trout ponds in my area, Beaver lake and Fiesta lake winterkilled because they didn't turn the aerators on last winter.

Shortly after ice out the lakes "turn over". That is where the coldest water on the top from the ice melt descends to the bottom where the sun has started to heat up the lake bottom, especially the shallows. Same idea in the fall before the ice goes on.

This is also a transport mechanism for oxygenated top water to get to the bottom to get things going in deeper water where the oxygen has been depleted.

Give it about 5 days and all will be good again. Just stick to under 6 FOW as that is where all the life is for the bugs.

Even before turnover happens, the lakes right after ice out are very cold, just a couple of degrees above zero, so as the trout are cold blooded, they are very lithargic. Optimal trout water temperature is between 55F - 65F, as the water temps increase, so will their appetite.

Of course, this cold front that has moved in surely has had an adverse effect on the fishing.

Leduc resivior has been stocked for a long time, mostly with brood stock rainbows which really makes me curious. Let us know how you make out!

X2 - curious to hear as well. I'm going to give it some honest attempts this year as well. Heard there are tons of fish as it stocks every year and not a ton of people fishing it or catching anything as they have so much food - why go after our hooks or flies.

The lake is very shallow so winter kills every year I guess. I don't think there is big ones left. Another story I have heard is that it's very difficult to catch fish there. 5000 fish eaten by birds quickly.

The resevoir was stocked recently and I caught one about 8" long last week. Everyone I talked to said they were all 8-10".
