Default How do you prove your artificial bait is non scented.

Theoretical question but have often wondered what would happen. So you are fishing a river where no bait is allowed including 'scented' artificial bait or 'power' baits. Your fishing with legal non scented bait but your tackle box has some power baits in it and they look the same or similar as the non scented plastic bait you are using. Warden checks you and says your are fishing with scented bait but your not. What happens, how would one defend oneself?

With other restrictions (for example lead weights in the national parks) if you have them with you, you could be charged even though thats not what you're fishing with at the moment.

That aside I would guess you would need the original packaging, and not having anything else with you that you can sent them with.

If you bought them in bulk at the fishing hole or something perhaps the receipt?

All of this is an educated guess so perhaps this is a question for f & w just to be safe?

Great question though.

I would just wait until he was there to reel up and show him what I was fishing with.

Maybe he could lick it to test for scent

I'm thinking the best way to tell if a bait is scented is to smell it.

Those scented baits are vile and it would be pretty obvious if you took a nice deep whiff.

I bet they taste just about as delicious too.

This^^^^^^^^^^^^^ best way.

If it doesnt smell like plastic/rubber probably get a ticket.

If u fish in areas with bait bans you should not store your non scented and scented baits together(maybe get scent transfer/contamination).

I keep everything for the park fishing in one tackle bag.

That is the only thing that goes in the boat when I go to the parks. Never an issue because it only contains led free jigs, scent free baits and no lead under the legal limit.

Easy, then you will never have to worry about being checked because I have found a few of the wardens to be a bit on the sticky, stubborn side.
