Default Lead Free Jigs

Hi everyone,

I'm doing a trip to jasper in May and wanted to fish the lake trout in a few lakes. However, I am running into problems with my gear set up (Revo Toro Beast 51 with a St Croix heavy Premier) in the fact that I do not have any lead free jigs that are heavy enough or large enough to fish for lake trout with. I was thinking of rigging some tubes but would prefer not to use a sliding worm weight in front of the presentation because some of those trout can be pretty clever.

Does any one know where to get large (1/0-4/0) heavy (1oz-3oz) lead free jigs, specifically in a tube head style?

Any help or knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Kamooki lures are my favourite! What patterns were you using? I'm going to be fishing Moab and Pyramid probably if that helps

Look up tungsten and bismuth materials on the interweb ...... lot's of alternatives out there ranging from the small perch sized, walleye sized jigs up to big lake trout jigs. The mid sized ones are the ones a little harder to find but here's a couple places to start looking ......

herring and natural shad are great but honestly, I have had good action on all the Kamooki patterns for various species... glow tiger is my current favourite

EZM,

have you ordered from any of those sites? Just wondering because those are starting to look like my best option for a true tube jig head.

Default Rapala & Strom lures

Hi all just some info I got in an email from Rapala customer service when I asked them if their lures were lead free. Just for info as some stores say you can use the and other stores say you cannot.
Question 1
I am hoping you can tell me which of your products are lead free as I am going fishing in the national parks of Alberta and I am not allowed to use products that contain lead.

Answer 1
Hi:
All Rapala and Storm products are lead free

Thanks
Best regards
John
Rapala

Question 2
Hi just want to check the answer I got from John (see below) as I was looking at the storm products at my local store yesterday and they had a warning on them stating they contain lead but you say they are lead free?

Answer 2
The lead warning is based on a law in California that says if there is a possibility of any lead in the product you need to declare it. There may be some lead in the paint that’s used in some product. Parks Canada restricts lead sinkers, lead shot etc. not painted baits

Thanks
Best regards
John

Yes - I have - it was painless and easy.

I didn't need a whole bunch, but bought $40-$50 worth of stuff and now am able to use these for fishing in the parks.

I did also pick up a few plano (tray snap) bins to keep them separated from the lead jigs as they are not easy to tell apart.
