I am new to the province and would like to take my son out sometimes, gophers are good way to start hunting and firearm safety as well.
Not asking for any spots(by now figured how sensitive people are about it here).
Looking for some general info how you guys find and hunt these.
Any advice is more than welcome.

To find them, drive lots of country roads. I have never figured out a pattern as to the hows and whys of finding a ground squirrel patch.

When you find a field find out who owns or leases it and go talk to them.

Like mentioned before drive lots. I like pasture and hay fields that don't get worked up every year. I see them in stubble fields but not like the other fields. New crop fields can be really good when the crop is about 3-4 inches high and is right beside a pasture or hay field.

If the farmer does not poison them they will be in these fields every year. We have some fields we have hunted for over 20 years. We started using counters a few years ago and can get 1000 or more gophers off these fields every year.......can't wait.

Got talking to a local rancher today in the gun store, turns out he has a surplus of gophers and can'rt seem to keep up. I offered to help so he is now the newest contact in my cell phone

Lol a 243 must have turned that thing inside out. A week of warm weather here and I should be able to start helping out the ranchers around me

They sure do show up on the snow covered fields, counted over 400 today, shot 70 on the fields we have permission on, and buried the Jeep to the rock rails.
Luckily the land owner has a sense of humour and and a tractor.

80 + 16 (coyoteman's post #23) +70 = 166

This was a first: shooting gophers while snowshoeing along the fenceline.

194 + 57 = 251
