This is second hand information, but my buddy said guys were driving on Lac la biche (staying close to shore, but driving on). Please keep us posted if you go, I’m headed out east of there and would love a second update on conditions.

Default Big Pike!!! and ignorant fishermen.!!!

So i hit a small lake just west of Edmonton this afternoon with my son. Fishing in 21-22 feet of crystal clear water. Ice was horrible, 2" top water and 6"of slush and only 7"of good clear ice. Usually this is a hotspot for tons of small perch, great for kids to get hooked on fishing. Today....crickets, staying warm in the tent, doing some jigging and a couple anchovies near the bottom for pike. I'm out trying other holes when my son starts talking about a log on the bottom. I came back to the tent and he shows me this "log". Quick glance and I'm like ok..great its a log....but then I blacked out the tent, let my eyes adjust and took another look.....not a log!!!!! 3 feet away from my 6" anchovie is a monster pike....sitting right on the bottom...sat there chillin' for an hour. It was easily 7-7.5 times the length of the bait. I compared and visually measured a dozen times....this thing is 42-44" easy, and thick. After dropping everything next to it in my arsenal...it ever so slowly moved off into the abyss without so much a sniff of what we had to offer. We did end up catching some perch and 5-6 lb pike....but not the beast. But just watching it made our day.
That being said....super disappointed with the trash people leave behind on the ice. Not hard to pick up your beer cans and coffee cups after yourselves!!!!

Managed one 18.5" walleye and some one pushed the snow onto the ice right in front of the boat launch. I was fishing in 18ft of water and every hole I drilled had lots of fresh water shrimp come out.

Default Newell

Are the puddles freezing up on Newell? I’ve been reading a bunch on this lake and they talk about rainbows and brown trout in there. Has anyone pulled any out ?

I was out at Wizard yesterday. 12 inches of ice with flood water.
Fishing was on the slow side. Couple of perch. Enough for dinner.

I know of some rainbows being caught in Newell, but haven’t heard of any browns. The majority of the rainbows are caught in the summer near the head gates. The bow flows into the lake at the headgates, which explains the trout. There’s no reason there wouldn’t be a few browns too.

Was there two weeks ago. Hardly any ice at interlakes, unsafe to fish. Went over to the boat launch at upper. 5-6 inches there.

Lower K was about 5-6 inches around interlakes as well. Should be good to go now. I'll know more tomorrow as I have some friends going.

Last I read somewhere it was 8 inches all the way across. Check the road report. Highway to the lake was closed for avalanche as of yesterday I believe (until further notice).

Default Crawling Valley vs Newell

Can anyone comment on CVR?

I read about Newell and they are fairly close in distance, so the ice conditions should be similarly close to each other.....Comments please?

Thanks,
