Pet Peeves
Getting cranky since looks like a long way still for open water.
So starting a list of pet peeves:
#1 The orgasmic fisherman hooting and hollering when catching a fish...ruins the whole day when looking for peace and quiet.
#2 Monofilament garbage scums...leaving chunks of mono in the lake and on the shore line.
#3 Ignoring parking restrictions...e.g. at Muir Lake.
#4 Screaming through the Bay after the launch at the park in Wabamun...12 km/h is clearly stated.

1) Pretentious fly fisherman 😂😂
2) garbage throwing
3) brand whoring
4) when you start catching fish and someone moves closer
5) not being happy for someone else catching a large fish i.e. jealousy
6) being an ******* to others while fishing
7) when you're fishing and clearly try to fish with your friends and not talk to others, and some random ***ker comes up and starts bsing with you when you clearly want to just want to fish.

Guys on the ice that have to blare music and hoot and holler every time they catch a 10" walleye
Guys that go Mach chicken close to your tent
When there's a whole lake to fish but someone anchors up 10ft from you
People that litter, including cigarette butts

Really? I think maybe you are a bit too serious. Fishing can be pretty damn exciting! I don't think you should expect people to hold in their excitement.

Yes, it can be exciting, but I think those same people are only doing it because they have an audience. More or less trying to say, "HEY! LOOK OVER HERE! I HAVE JUST CAUGHT A FISH AND WANT TO LET YOU KNOW SO YOU CAN THINK I'M REALLY SOMETHING!"
Spare me...

- Guiding for free. Its one thing if its a couple of times, but as soon as it becomes an on going occurrence and there's no spot reciprocation, gets old. Fishing partners never being properly set up falls into this category.
- People getting jealous is high up there, yourself and others. You can't have any fun if you can't get excited about someone else catching anything.
- People who talk big, act like they know what they're doing when reality shows otherwise.
I dont typically run into crowding because I dont fish where others do, minus lakes in the spring, and then I just have more fun catching fish in front of others when they get to close if it gets to that point.

#1 Brittle tippet you never now til you lose the first fish
#2 breaking off at dusk and cant see well enough to tie back on and you know there's at least 30 minutes of the best fishing about to happen
#3 6x tippet and a size 18-20 hook.
#4 Prescription sun glasses and the sun goes down it gets even darker so you have to pack you regular glass to.
#5 The right spot for you fishing net so it doesn't catch on everything.
#6 Wet wading and electric fences

Fishermen pretending ignorance of the regs. More than one line in open water. Keeping more than the stated limit. Chumming.
Even after advising them of the regs, they're doing the same thing the next time I see them. And I again advise them of the regs. And again, and again, and again.
I know I should call the COs, but hesitate to do so.

When you put your biggest sucker down the hole, and a tiny pike comes along and knocks it off the hook.

That'll be the main one, small ones are too plentifull and i'll look like an old grump...

Wilderness crowding. I once walked 4 miles into the back country to fish. Next thing I know a guy hops in the stream 50m up from me. Seriously???? There was nobody for 6km upstream of me and probably 20km downstream of me. But this jackhole had to dive in literally right above me. I know you can't expect solitude on many popular waters but when you hike an hour into the wilderness and there's km after km of fishable water up and down, there's no excuse for jumping in right above someone. Didn't that person hike 6km for solitude too? I don't get it.
Gearheads get me too. Guys that have to have the new top of the line fly rod and reel every year or two. Not a pet peeve really but something I giggle at because it really matters very little in the grand scheme of fishing.
And yeah...littering. Cigarette butts is littering.

I'll flip it around a bit just for the heck of it.
What I really enjoy ( and look forward to even as we sit) about fishing....
-Being the only one on the lake
- Sunrises and sunsets
-Fishing til you are almost numb and knowing you have a warm drink close by after you get off the lake
- A good glass of bourbon, scotch, wine or a cold beer after a day of fishing
- watching the osprey catch more than I do ( kidding, though it happens a few times a year)
-casts that seem effortless and shoot for (what seems like a hundred yards) and land perfectly
- casting to a rise and hooking up first or second time
-rowing long distances to a spot and getting in to a fish within minutes
I'm already itching to get out on the water and fling a few flies (may have to go ice fishing soon and enjoy the great outdoors) and could go on about the many good things ( that certainly doesn't mean I don't grumble and gripe about other things )
-poaching
-loudmouths
-disrespectful, garbage scattering nitwits

I cant stand
Fly fisherman who look down upon thoes of us who spin fish as well.
The guy who bass master 5000's while fishing for browns under 12inches.
People who cant share a river. I have zero problem if you want to come and try near where i am just dont cast over my line.
And last but not least the guy who looses a fish and makes the rest of the day terrible for everyone.

Sooner rather than later, I hope.
Last year was early for me and managed to be on an almost ice free lake in 3rd week of April.
Hard to say this year but it will give us some time to get some tying in.

And yet you still won't touch a "slimey" (pike that is) when we're out on Wabamun (another pet peeve). Oh well, you're only 65 so still lots of time

After seeing what you look like after cuddling those slimy buggers (picture Bill Murray when he gets slimed in original "Ghostbusters")... I'll pass.
Don't know which is worse... you snuggling your pike or you taking your clam chowder bath. Give me a red hot poker in the eyes!
