Default 40 years heres to another 40

Quick photo of our Sept 1st opener. This one was special as it marked the 40th year I have bird hunted with my best friend. We have been best friends since Grade 1. Started at his dads farm when we were 12. We have come a long way from water shooters and puddle jumpers to field guys, rubber decoys made from tires to Big Foots, hunting out of the 1982 Honda Civic hatchback to a trailer with lights, honored to hunt with some of the best dogs ever in Patches, Amber, Rebel, Bandit, Duke, Tazz, Fritz, and Buzz who we lost this summer.. Skeeba is left and new kid Nixon will carry the torch....

We use to work all summer to buy a case of Imperial #4's from Army and Navy downtown now we shoot steel.

Our kids hunt together and now they are introducing girlfriends. Throw in some guiding a number of years ago, and full time jobs lots of early September mornings but I wouldn't trade it for anything. The hunt is the hunt but the friendship and the camaraderie is everything.

Blessed to enjoy so many mornings. And in November when everyone is killing deer we will sneak out just the two of us with no kids no friends and find a small duck shoot where we will smack talk and shoot 16 green heads like we have done for 40 years and that will end our season..

Hope all of you have that friend you can share the memories with. Enjoy the season

HT.

That's a great anniversary. 31 years hunting this year with my best friend and 15 years with another. Very blessed to have longtime hunting buds. I'm not wealthy but do feel like a rich man, having the friends I do. It's great camaraderie that makes every outing successful.

that is so cool
I had a hunting partner like that, but his life was cut short we had 25 good seasons together,
I have since searched and tried many different partners , but things just never seem to jive
I truly do envy you and your hunting partner and admire what you two share together

That is great to hear you have a hunting partner that you truly relate to, passed it on to yours, just wish the puppies lasted that long eh.

Thats a great pic, and a nice story. Congrats to you and your buddies. I have been blown away by all the Canada Geese that I have been seeing here in Central AB. Growing up it was a rare sight to see some Canada geese while out duck hunting, and now there huge flocks everywhere.
One day I will have to go on a proper goose hunt. Thats something Iv'e never done.

Awesome post and great pics. Having someone like you have as a partner is beyond words. In a hunting situation you just know what the other person is going to do and how they will react to various situations. I have been blessed with someone like that as well. His older son and my youngest son join us every year on our annual November hunt. For myself it's more about spending time in nature with family and friends than actually harvesting anything.
