Default ruger frontier?? good, bad, evil?

http://www.ruger.com/Firearms/FAProd...17883&return=Y

lately ive been bugging Dick284 about my next project..
35" overall, 16.5" pipe, sub 7 lbs, (and IER 2x7 scope)
i wanted a easy packing truck gun, fast swinging 100 yard fire breathing leadspitter for heavy cover..
now Bashaw sports has two 300wsm's left and are dumping them for $695 each.
your thots on a 16.5 bbl'ed landcannons in 300wsm?
ever owned one?
painful to shoot?

I like short rifles for hunting. Mine is a little less acurate that my long barrelled guns but plenty acurate to place some molten lead in the zone. I dont know if I like the scope up that far but heeaahh, I never tried it. Stainless is awsome but I do prefer a composite stock. Laminated wood is a lot tougher than straight walnut though. Go for it!!

I think short barreled rifles are a good idea, but one with a 16.5" pipe in 300 magnum would be very loud. You would also lose quit a bit of the "magnum advantage" with such a short barrel. Most of the WSMs have a 23 or 24 inch barrel, so you'd be getting the velocity of a 30-06 or 308 with a 16.5" barrel.

a 3006 is certainly a force in the 100-150 yards (what most of us shoot game) shouldnt make to much differance.
the ones in bashaw sports are blue and wood,,,although i am partial to ss/comp/or lam, i have a planning to liten it, flutes and skelotonize it, then teflon coat it all up anyways.
now all have to do is convince her that a nine gun safe should have nine guns in it, any hints on how to break THAT news???

My shortys are a 16" mod 94 30-30 and a 20" 358 win on a stevens 200. I like the quick pointing ability i have with these two, not to mention not getting tangled in the bush. I am sure a 300 WSM will put out qite a fireworks show with the 16" tube, and give you some pretty decent muzzle flip. Just something to ponder. As far as the 9th gun goes, take an empty case when you go and see Randy n Pud, then bring it home full, she will simply assume you have gone out and come home with the same gun. It will be a non issue.
