Default Our New Lab

Hi Everyone

I thought I'd share our new family member here. I haven't trained a pup before but I've done my homework and I have the time right now. Hopefully I'll have him ready for birds next year.

Default Labs

Good choice. I have had a few (3) Labs over the last 40 years or so. My current Lab is now 14 and I'm thinking about a new pup soon.

Enjoy your new best friend.

That's a gorgeous pup - is it a Silver Lab? Love the eyes!

Nice dog. Do not make the mistake I did of letting him jump to much on the front legs. No jumping off the chair, out of the truck, in the air after a ball as it causes problems later in life. Mine got what is called jump down syndrome.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. We have a Bernese Mountain dog already so it's a ramp in and out of the truck as he can't make the jump anyway. They get along quite well after only 4 days together.

Silver, I mean chocolate labs are beautiful dogs. Hopefully you don't get harassed by the Lab police on here. We have a 6 yo silver and everyone comes over to him wanting to check him out.

not to side track this thread on a wonderful pup but they say working dogs like police dogs end up with jump down syndrome. I guess you try to be as careful as you can and do not work them to hard when still young. Let the bones and joints develop and get strong.

I understand, and I like what I like just as everyone else. I have no intention in raising that debate here. My family and I fell in love with this little guy pretty quick. At the very least he will be a good family dog and that's what is most important to us.

Congrats!! Luv puppy breath. Hoping next year to add to my brood of labs lol. Don't rush them growing up. Already goes by way to fast. Great time to introduce water before it gets chilly 😊

One suggestion I would make is to get that guy a blue collar or a blue name tag. You wouldn't believe how many times - probably 80%, people assume our silver is female. They assume he's female because he's so "pretty", lol.

He sure is a cutie, but I think he looks sad because you haven't named him yet.
I'm sure he will be a great companion for you, and I hope he works out as a bird dog. Not all of them do.
