Default BC Tuna Fishing

Has anyone on here been fishing for Yellowfin Tuna in BC? I saw a video of people fly fishing for tuna a few years ago and would love to experience it for myself. If so, who did you go with? Any info would be great, and in particular it would be great to hear of any charters that cater to fly guys.

Oli's fishing Charters out of Winter Harbour seems to be the go-to tuna guy along the north coast. Murphy's out of Uculet further south. I think it's with Murphy's that you can book a regular salmon/halibut trip, and if the tuna are running, pay a (substantial) premium to take a run off shore after them.

Oli now runs a tuna derby!:
"The inaugural Bounty in the Blue Tuna Classic was hosted by Oli’s Fishing Charters between the 3rd and 7th of September 2020. Oli’s is located in Quatsino Sound’s Winter Harbour which offers access to terrific inshore and offshore fishing from Vancouver Island’s northwest coast."

I've caught yellowfin off Costa Rica - but am anxious to try BC albacore too!

Weird. Duplicate thread started on the same day minutes apart and just added to yesterday for the first time.

Mods, can you combine and close one of them?

I post these threads in two forums, Fishing and Fly Fishing, in case there are members who are active in one but not in the other.

I had a trip booked to go in the past but the wife got sea sick on the day conditions were good so switched to bottom fishing

When talking to guides the distance you travel varies a lot as it is a matter of chasing the warm currents. This means they can be as close as 5km to completely unrealistic so you can’t fish tuna that day. Yes albacore is the main species of tuna and only one to be expected but strange species have been caught in the warm currents of the coast of BC. I have seen pics of bigeye tuna, shark species that should not be that far north and I remember hearing of a barracuda caught off Vancouver island

This is a trip that you need to be flexible and have a back up plan if conditions make tuna unrealistic. Book multiple days fishing so you have at least one day of good conditions and enjoy the close by species on the off days

Dave from starfish charters in port hardy. Like I said we didn’t end up going for tuna do to the wife getting sea sick but he did an awesome job with bottom fish and coho. We did this 7 years ago(at least I think I have been married that long)for our honeymoon when we lived in BC
