Thats a good question then. Like I said all new to me. Maybe they will just have those for residents? Was interested how a non resident heard before us.
thanks for bringing that up. Where can we see how much those tags sold for?

But sure if the prices are online or not still. Sheep was 235 000, mule 29 000, elk 27 000, from memory.

For the record, on my part I didnt post this to try and start a riot. That can happen and does happen in many threads. I thought it was interesting to see. I always hear about the tags being sold and raffled but this was the first I ever actually saw proof of a kill and alwasy wonder what ever becomes of them tags.

The kills are usually pretty quiet I find. I see the odd one here and there but not too many.

Not sure. Maybe for the same reasons most of the big elk don’t see a social media outlet or anything in this province. Hush Hush, other than maybe a few text pics between trusting friends lol.

The new gunwerks sling swivels on the side of the stalk are awesome. No trigger guard rubbing in your back, holds it tighter with a shorter sling, and generally holds well.

The ministers raffle "is still being organized" as per AFGA last week in a message to me. Hopefully should be up soon. Would be awesome if they increased the number of raffle tags (Sheep north of the river, south of the river), a 365 day elk tag, antelope, grizzly, goat, moose, wolverine, whatever.

As to those who have never heard of the ministers raffle before for residents - tickets are usually $10 for Elk and Mule Deer and last year i believe they sold about 2500-3000 tickets. Sheep sell for $20 and last year had 7,500 tickets. Last year, as far as i am aware, they sold about 60-70% of the total raffle tickets.

Always a pretty cool chance at an awesome hunt. The last 5 years, not many true monster animals have been harvested - sheep typically range in the 185-190 range, elk in the 300-330 range and mule deer in the 180-190 range and many elk/mule deer holders go home empty handed holding out for a true giant.

I held the Elk tag in 2016. Was an awesome experience and met many people during my travels and question periods that i still talk to today. A great hunt, but 6 years later, don't expect to hunt for a 350+ bull unless you pay an outfitter or can put in some serious time. In my opinion.

With a little time and effort a 350 bull would be easily attainable IMHO.

Petersen probably hunted WT with Kirk in the past. Seems there would be some bigger bulls couple hundred k south of there.

I don’t see what the big deal is about what a guy chooses to shoot with his draw

If he is happy with his choice who cares

A simple one line observation doesn't qualify as a big deal. Couple other guys just commenting on a tag you can hunt any zone with extended season.

I stand corrected.

Thought it was the draw, guess it was the $27,000.00 auction...all good. Our road hunter never mentioned that in his video.

Watched the video again.

1) Shortest most expensive "Road Hunt" I have seen for awhile.

2) I thought "spotting" big game was part of hunting. If that is the case, sunrise rules would apply..No? Seems to me things were pretty dark inside the truck when they were doing that, along with the previously made comments made by the "outfitter or landowner" (ie. elk going in the bush prior to sunrise), and maybe I spotted some stars outside.

3) Stalking a viable hunting option? No?

Maybe I'm wrong...oh well...

Yep pretty uneventful hunt
Not much hunting footage
A lot of filler

I don’t think there’s a problem with spotting game before sunrise
Your allowed to set up your decoys in the dark when waterfowl hunting
And your allowed to site in a blind or stand before legal light as well

Didn’t look like stalking was much of an option
He looked more than confident shooting that far
But it added to the blah of the whole event

He did a good job of selling the ministers tag and the idea behind it with his shpeel.

He’s trying to complete 3 super slam. One with a rifle bow and muzzle loader
That’s a pretty lofty goal

Cool thanks for sharing this. I also wonder how the hunter makes out with the Minister tag.

While I agree withe keeping your kills quiet it would be nice sometimes to see the great animals killed. Most of the sheep killed on those tags are well into November and December. Rams that everybody else never get a chance at in the regular season. But I get it. If you want advertising and sell more tags why not show what great animals are harvested, good advertising for the outfitters too. I don't know too many that don't use an outfitter.

What’s wrong with road hunting he never shot from the truck from what I seen? How would looking at an animal in a field before sunrise be against the law? I think pretty well every one on this forum would have broken that law? I know I have spotted a lot of game walking to my spot in the morning that I later shot at legal shooting time. You seem to have a pretty big hate on for this guy? Sounds like you should have been a cop or fish cop to catch these criminals!

Tough crowd on here. Some guys seem anti hunting on this hunting forum. Tell us more how you struggled to fill your general whitetail tag last year?

Congrats to everyone involved. Would like to see Alberta producing some better quality critters for those minister tags but what can you do.

Because of that:

Alberta Wildlife Act

o) “hunt” means, subject to subsection (6), with reference to
a subject animal,
(i) shoot at, harass or worry,
(ii) chase, pursue, follow after or on the trail of, search
for, flush, stalk or lie in wait for,
(iii) capture or wilfully injure or kill,
(iv) attempt to capture, injure or kill, or
(v) assist another person to hunt in a manner specified in
subclause (i), (ii), (iii) or (iv) while that other person
is so hunting

And no, I do not have a "hate" for this guy.

Simply discussing some observations from an obviously edited video.

All good...

It’s legal shooting light, not legal driving light or looking light or walking to your stand light
