Truck rifle carrier
Hi folks.
Im curious what everyone is using for holding long guns in the truck.
I have a 2018 crew cab so often the rifle is on the back seat on the way to the hunting grounds. Which isn’t really ideal, but doable.
The real issue comes when my son and I are headed out after birds.
2 guys, 2 shotguns and an excited chesepeake on the back seat.
I have seen cabelas and others advertise a stand up rack more meant for side by sides and I’m contemplating buying one to try to mount in the pickup.
Maybe there’s a better option?
I miss the days of them in the back window
Thanks

I have the 3 gun one(can't remember the name) that fully encases the guns and runs along the back of both front seats of my crewcab F-150. Put it in 3 years ago and it hasn't left. Very handy for not only guns but fishing rods, shooting sticks etc. Especially glad I got it now that both of my kids are hunting this year....
It's similar to this one.....

The stand up stand may not work in a pickup with some rifles/shotguns as they may be too long and contact the roof.
I would suggest the type suggested in the post above me.

I bought this a few years ago:

It's not perfect, but it works.

No experience with them but check out du-ha storage systems. Eyeballed one for similar reasons just wasn't ready to commit to loosing the floor space.

Tried different versions. This style is very hard to beat and it keeps the guns out of plain view plus protected. I also had a single sleeve on the bottom of the front seat that holds the gun behind your calves and out of the way. Handy to take out when you get out of the truck.

I have the same style, behind the front seats. Holds 2 guns, one on top and one on the bottom, gun pouch zippers up and out of sight. And then lots of pockets in the middle for other things. It’a great, mine came from Gregg’s through work.

I also like that it frees up space on the back seat, under the back seat and the truck box(depending on where you usually keep them). The guns are easy/quick to get in and out of the case too....

Thanks for the advice.
I’ll look into one across the back of the seats.
And good heads up. I just measured and yeah, I could barely fit my coach gun vertically in the front never mine a rifle or full size shotgun
Cheers

I think I am going to get one built for the new crew cab. I want it to have a cutout that let's the rear seat centre console still pump heat and air conditioning into the rear seat. None of the off the shelf ones I have found so far have that cut out in them.

I always thought that the guy riding shotgun held the firearm, you know, for those snap shots over the mirror.

He does. Nothing has changed since the stage coach days.

Right on, sometimes custom is the way to go. Post some pics of what you get made, I might be interested in something like that down the road.

off the shelf versions I have used.
Aside from the front sleeve the one I had the place in Calgary added three sleeves on the back too.
If I end up having to get a custom one for this truck I will post pictures. Still hoping I can locate a stock one built the way I want. Obsesseds version leaves the centre stack uncovered but I prefer the guns to be completely out of sight. Might make a usable pattern though.

When you guys are buying these pay attention to the build quality. A good one with quality zippers, big enough pockets for a scoped rifle, strong enough to hold the rifle in place without being zipped up etc is going to cost you a couple of hundred. The 40 buck versions off of Amazon are not nearly the same thing and are basically junk.

As a boy I remember having rubber coated metal hangers on the rear window of the pick-up that held three rifles. I believe these have been outlawed but I am in the market for a couple of pairs if anyone has (or knows someone who has) that I can purchase. I have two sets that I hang my fishing rods on the wall in the den but I could use more.

All kinds of versions and choices at pretty good prices. There are a whole bunch on Amazon.ca too.

Those are a good setup if you don't already have storage bins under the rear seat. Other problem with them is they aren't exactly handy to get in and out of unless you leave the back seat up. Good option if you can do that though.

And if you have a Tundra, there's no option for the supercrew... Because of the foam-filled space under the seat... :'(
